I had this, saw a car, competitive price, not so low you'd worry, but in Aberdeen. Rang the guy and he was relocating back to Denmark... But he seemed genuine.

So I got on a 10 hour bus from London, the guy met me at the station, car perfect, transferred the money and headed home!

So there are some decent ones out there in Aberdeen!
Norway is a new location though. It's usually Aberdeen.

I actually feel sorry for genuine people selling a car that live in Aberdeen, it must be a nightmare.

No you can freeze the beneficiary account by raising a fraud alert on the account number you are given.

You are assuming there is money in that account, I doubt there is it will have long been transferred out.

It's annoying that even when Auto Trader know they are scams, they do not remove the ads, this indicates that AT want to keep these ads to boost the numbers of cars they have advertised.

However, this is one of the oldest scams going, pretty sure it's even had a mention on BBC Watchdog.

Sometimes people will believe anything when promised a shot at low cost social status.

It's not just buyers though, sellers are also targeted by scammers, the overpayment scam being one of the most common.

Trouble is people don't want to admit when they've been scammed, so the information doesn't get out there to arm other potential victims.

My younger brother was close to falling for a similar scam, this was with a Galaxy though, and likewise was in Norway (well the guy said he had moved to Norway) , it did take some convincing of my brother to look elsewhere, fortunately he too started to suspect it was a scam when the seller was 'messing' around.
But had the OP posted their intentions before parting with the money, then the replies I'm sure would have been similar as in, see the vehicle 1st.

I cannot believe that there is no way OP can recover his money.
That means I can go about and do the same thing, knowing no one will catch me.

Surely bank will know who the account holder is. Trace from there.
Ask bank to reverse transfer it.

You think the scammer set up an account with his own name and details and used it? Pretty stupid if he did

As said above a bank transfer cant just be reversed
