I agree its going to be costly mistake. Although i got my old car and its not bad. I will do ok. But lot of hard earned money lost. Next time go to Audi dealer. Thats the lesson learnt. Never ever go to Autotrader reason being genuine cars are overpriced and low ends are dodgy.

Come off it, nobody falls for this one these days.

    I beg to differ.

Autotrader is fine if you are in possession of common sense.

Its happened now. I have put a alert on beneficiary account. So its frozen. If there is any money left there i might get it back although its difficult to imagine i am seeing my money back.

Autotrader simply lists the cars, they list many cars from Audi dealers as well as other dealers and a genuine Audi dealer is going to be the most expensive of the lot. The scams generally follow a similar template with a desirable car well under the price (often because the person has supposedly moved abroad) and also another dead giveaway is if there is a telephone number or e-mail address on the photo of the car and the advert tells you to use that.

With cars (many other things in life) I'd always recommend caution if something is cheaper than it should be particularly if it's a desirable model as scams will usually go with something popular that people are more impulsive towards. I will admit many years ago in the early days of online shopping, I got scammed for £400 with a laptop that never arrived and the seller disappeared. I'd made many mistakes and I was furious with myself afterwards for being so stupid (it was a lot of money to me at the time) but while it was an expensive lesson, it was one that was well learned and I generally take the approach if it's too good to be true, it probably is. I'd rather miss out on a great deal than get scammed again so while I have missed out on a few good deals I'm not bothered.

I would assume the scammers have chosen a bank that will protect them and their money but it's still worth looking into further if only to make yourself feel a bit better that you did everything you could.

  • Norway is a new location though. It's usually Aberdeen.

I actually feel sorry for genuine people selling a car that live in Aberdeen, it must be a nightmare.

Never heard of that before, money can only usually be recovered if the person receiving it agrees
  • Genuine sales seem to start at 16,000 for A4 2014. So you basically took this risk to save £5000.

Perhaps people are being a little harsh to you. As capitalism is about taking risks, and not playing safe with money. So you thought I would take this risk to save £5000.

But I always limit the car search to 15 miles as I can check the car without wasting much of my time.
