I'm hoping I've finally solved my problem. I'm not sure which one of my e-mails they were responding to, however I did address one to the Sales Manager and marked it as urgent so perhaps that is why I got a reply. I had a phone call a few days ago from them, but from a completely different number, and they said they were someone from the complaints department and that I would be contacted again within 14 days regarding my complaint. A couple of days later I received an e-mail:-
Dear Laura,
i sincerely apologise that you have been receiving unwanted calls from GM Group and that you feel you haven't been adequately acknowledged. this email is to confirm that you have been removed from out systems and you will no longer be receiving calls from ourselves.
Kind regards

For those of you who would like to contact this person the e-mail address was sham.gmgroup@googlemail.com. I'm still not sure about this though, due to the lack of capitalisation at the start of sentences and the spelling error it does look fishy, and the e-mail address itself doesn't look right but you never know... I did google the name and it came up with a site where this name was listed as a member of an editorial team based in Blackburn, Lancs, where GM Group are also based (so probably the same person and maybe not so suspicious?)...
I also registered my mobile number with TPS.
I haven't had any more calls (yet!) so hopefully they finally got the message.:T0 -
I'm so glad its not just me - I've been getting calls from this number and ones saying 'no caller ID' whcih I suspect are the same company , almost on a daily basis for about two months - I tried ignoring them at first to no avail - I answered once and was told it was a courtesy call, then then proceeded to ask me all about my contract - erm, if you're from my phone company shouldn't you know all this?!
There was a break of a few days, then then starting ringing again and my husband finally answered at about 9.00pm on a Saturday (the third call that day!) - he told them in no uncertain terms that the number was registered with the TPS and that we didn't want anymore calls.
After a few days thay then started calling again(!) - again my husband answered and told them where to go basically - he mentioned the TPS (to which the guy replied 'what's that?'!!!!!), then complained that they'd been calling at all hours (as early as 6 in the morning), to which the guy said, 'there must be ghost in the office then as we only call between 9 and 6 (Yeah, right!). Cheeky *****!
That was five days ago - they phoned me again today! I'm so incensed, but I'm loath to write to them or email as I don't particularly want to give them more ways of contacting me! I'm tempted to report them to the police for harassment. I've had at least 25 calls and everytime we get told we'll be taken off their list, then the next time we are called they say that by answering we automatically put back on - arrragh!!!!
Any ideas?0 -

I know what you all mean about the calls, I got a few over the last few weeks. I got really annoyed and started flipping out until I got to a manager. I spoke to some guy called Alex and he told he why I was being called and that they work on behalf of the 3 network.
What was funny was that I actually ended up taking a contract from them which sounds a bit strange when you were trying to complain, but hey, it worked and they gave me a better deal due to the complaint!
Now thats how to get your own way0 -

Any ideas? In a nutshell honest businesses will only contact their customers. Dishonest businesses will buy the TPS list to add to their database. And that's why they keep calling.
On the other hand, The Data Protection Act Does allow for criminal prosecution and compensation and telemarketers pay nothing to check your details if you are registered with http://www.optoutuk.co.uk0 -

honest businesses will only contact their own customers? how would a business get customers in the first place if they can only contact customers? does that not seem a little stupid?0 -
Hi,
If you want to stop marketing calls register your number on the Telephone Preference Service (TPS) at http://www.tpsonline.org.uk/tps/
This is a register of all numbers who opt out of marketing calls. Companies who make marketing calls MUST, BY LAW, check this database first. If your number appears, they can't call you.
Some will still call you but if you tell them you are registered on TPS they should swiftly put the phone down and never be heard from again.
If they STILL call all you need is to find out the Company name and record the time and date you received the call. Send a complaint to OFCOM, the telecommunications regulator, and they will deal with them.
Further info on the TPS website.
Hope this helps
Regards
