Ooh. I will have a look,at that later. Sounds interesting.
Despite feeling grim I ended up having a great evening with my son, wrapped up in sofa throws, half watching a couple of easy movies, reading and internet surfing. Him looking at car !!!!!! and me looking at property !!!!!!. The cat dividing his time between the two of us.
Had a good sleep, cat on my bed and then this morning DS2 brought me a cup of ta in bed as usual. I have trained him well.:D
I now feel human again.....:D0 -
Well, up early this morning to drop DD at train station - I had forgotten what a joy it isn't to sit in the morning rush hour moving two inches at a time. Still, the good bit was that I hit the shops early and got a few more presents and am home till later when I am bowling with my grandsons. Not sure if the knees are up to it so may persuade that that they are not too old to have the metal thingummybob. Just the "difficult" presents to get now (next week).
Hope today is just as good as yesterday AC. Are you alternating a session at the gym with a day getting stuff done/gentle walking? You do sound very upbeat and getting settled in your new (for now) home.0 -
Good morning / afternoon
Today is my birthday (wow!:) ) Just been to the gym and had shower.
I beat the heavy rain . Doing just bike / treadmill
Cross trainer for now .Broadband is up and running .
I've just got to get out of lazy mode to tie up the loose ends and get it working .
Love the washing machine and dryer . How sad am I ?:)
May go to John Lewis and get myself a new computer .
The one I have is 10 years old . My friend will look at it to get it running faster . I will be getting another Mac mini . Not as expensive as a MacBook Pro . Plugs into tv etc. Will also buy a recording app so I can record my bass and write some strange stuff and upload onto the Internet .
The best thing about not working ,whike living in this flat ,is that I get to hear all the movements .
I know when the shower is running in the morning . I know when they do the vacuuming upstairs . I know when the young girl shouts and when she goes to school. I know that the man is not in the flat everyday .
But it is a nice flat . I see plenty of magpies , plenty of dogwalkers but no cats
Yeah , I feel fine at the momentSo far so good
Hope you're having a good day0 -
NOOOOOO don't go and buy a new computer, find a store in Poole and deals with Apple and get them to look at the mac-mini - nothing wrong with a 10 year old one.0

Happy Birthday...AC. Whilst I think it is highly appropriate to buy yourself a nice birthday present please be careful not to overdo it.
AC I know I sound like an Old worn out record but really you do need to plan ahead.
Save any major purchases until after you have bought your next property. You will have a much clearer picture of your finances then.
As I mentioned My son was egging me on last night to buy a maserati.....it was just a little joke. I could buy it today but I won't.
Just because you can doesn't necessarily mean you should.
Hold on to your pennies for now. You don't know when you will need them. Once you have bought your property and found a job you like then you can have litttle spending spree.
Until then exercise a bit self discipline!!!
Have you ever read a blog by Mr Moneymoustache. I can recommend it. Also there are number of money books you might find helpful
"THe Rules of Wealth", "The Millionaire Next Door"' "Your Money or Your Life".
Read and learn.
I wasnt always the savvy "woman of means" I am now, I learned the hard way - as did most reformed spendthrifts.
You, on the other hand, really don't seem to have quite grasped that particular nettle yet. You need to slow down and think before you act.
Re that computer. I know a way for you to make your purchase whilst keeping your costs down. But you will need to delay for a while.
Let me tell you about my husband. He was a self employed IT consultant. Very successful and made shedloads of money. He needed bang up to date state of the art equipment, his livelihood depended on keeping up. We replaced equipment on a regular basis and as I was his financial director - yes literally we set up a Limited Company - I can explain how it worked.
Your computer is just for hobbies (at the moment - I will show you how to get round this) so for now you don't need high speeds and fancy gimmicks. A 10 year old functional computer is fine for now.
My sons desk top Apple is 12.years old. Ok not as fast now but it serves its purpose. It still does all the music stuff he wants it to do, still downloads movies etc.
He had his iPad stolen so he resurrected my lap top. I think he bought a gizmo for it - about £30 and it's as good as new.
My I pad is getting a bit "tired" and doesn't hold its charge for long but it's fine. I'll keep it until it dies.
Replacing tech because it is old and a bit slow is a complete waste of money if it's only for hobbies. It's a liability.
If it's for business then that's a different matter. It becomes an asset.
You need a job and I have often proposed you think also think about a sideline business so that you have more than one income stream.
Why not get a fairly undemanding job and turn your love of music into a business.
Register the business and then buy your kit. This way your new computer will be tax deductible from your business earnings.
You make money from doing what you love, with the kit you lust after, and keep your tax bill down in the process. Win, win, win.
So here's the order.
House and job first. Then register a business, then and only then buy your state of the art kit. Then it will be a Legitimate business expense to reduce your tax bill. I'm not saying dont buy it but just delay your purchase until you have everything in place.
Yes I will buy myself a flash convertible....it's on my bucket list.
But it will be after I've bought my house and after I have set up a business. It will be a business expense for which I will be able to claim mileage and lower my tax bill. I will also replace our tech stuff at the same time for exactly the same reason.
They will be legimate business expenses.
Good money management isnt about depriving yourself, it's about careful planning so you can have your cake and eat it.
when you need to make a large purchase always ask yourself this simple question - will it be a liability or an asset.
Hint......a house is an asset, a car is usually a liability.
Sometimes a liability can be classed as an asset for business purposes so it can be regarded as a "capital investment" and can therefore be offset against future earnings to keep your tax bill down.0
