AC sounds like things are going well :T

Though going into patisserie's will NOT help you lose weight

Once you are settled next week you can look to the future and also start to look for your permanent home :T. You've never really addressed the flat vs house issue. If you find a nice flat with £80 - £100 a month service charge that's around 4 hours a week you'd have to work just to pay that. So, till lunchtime on Monday you'd be working just to pay for that. Worth giving that some serious thought.
A positive attitude may not solve all your problems, but it will annoy enough people to make it worth the effort
    :) Mortgage Balance = £0 :)
"Do what others won't early in life so you can do what others can't later in life"
  • There are a few things I have overlooked. Probably .
One thing has just sprung to mind ..hi- fi !

In storage, I currently have 2 mid price amplifiers from Cambridge audio.
    ( 1 for bedroom,& 1 for living room ).
I also have a pair of b&b loudspeakers, bookshelf style .
Also speaker cable to put it all together.
For my tv in the living room, I have a soundstage.( basically , a sound bar on which the t v goes on top of it).
I will need a Bluetooth speaker ( maybe 2) , for the flat next week.
Will need to buy a cheap bedside radio,as that died over a year ago.

Can't see me being able to bring amp/speaker into the flat.
Not sure whether to offload the 'proper' hi-fi setup , or get a future proof setup. Not sure if blurpetooth is as good (maybe better), than my present systems. There is Black Friday . There is a Hmv in Poole . Not sure about richer sounds.
    Thoughts?

Morning AC. Sounds like you're still not sleeping well? Hope that starts to improve now.
About NI contributions... Did you know that the rules are changing so that you'll need more years for a full SP after I think next year. The change will definitely affect youas you're a long way off retirement age. But perhaps you started work early? But you can go online and ask for a pension forecast or phone them with your ni number to hand.
Great that you're thinking about how to control spending so you don't blow your capital and can't buy what you need. Working out a budget and sticking to it is the way to go.
How is the eating well going?

    Thanks gally:)
Part of the plan, is to get to know the good places to go to .
I may go in there for black coffee & toast. When( if) I start work, it will probably be only weekends.
Regarding the service charges , I thought of something that may work in my favour for a few years anyway :
If I can secure a nice place with a lowballish type of bid, I could put a sum(say £15,000for arguments sake ) to pay solely for that for x number of years .
    I'll have to see ..

    Hello verbatim:)
I suppose part of me not sleeping ( other than the obvious), may be because I'm not working.
The eating , isn't as bad as it was. Next week is when I properly focus .That is when I have a pattern, for the first time in ages with no excuses.

Regarding pension : started work in 1979. Apparently, I retire in 13 years time
67, and not 65. Surely I've paid enough stamp to qualify

Still better to get freehold. No more sevice charges ever. With your idea what happens after the money runs out? Try to future proof your life so that you don't run into problems down the line. Better for your mental health than building IN certain worry and difficulty down the line because you won't be able to continue paying the high charges.

    Good morning.......

AC. It's a damn good job I'm not in the same room as you else I would be giving you a serious kick up the derrière.......

    1. Blue tooth, sound systems etc... !!!!!! ......these are TOYS !!! It is NOT the time to be spending your money on treats, toys and gizmos. That comes later when you are settled.

    2. Patissieries.......every day!!! How to you expect to lose weight. :rotfl: not to mention the Money slipping through your fingers.

    3. Black coffee and toast.....can't you cook those yourself.

    4. Toast...? Where is the nutritional value in that - it's just carbs.

    5. Which brings me nicely to your health.

Seriously your diet is shocking....how on Earth to you expect to get healthy by eating crap.

You have had a week now, stop procrastinating and start eating better.

Ditch the carbs, and get some decent protein, it's easy enough

Meat, fish, eggs, vegetables, salads, fruits.

You can grill a steak can't you, Pan fry some chicken breasts, do a simple stir fry, make an omelette.

Come on now ........any damn fool can do those and if you can't then it's time you learnt!!!

Join the gym by all means but fgs clean up your diet.!!!

    Ok ...... lecture over. :rotfl::rotfl:

Dad had an emergency blood transfusion yesterday. We meet with his consultant today so will know more then.
  • AC. Re pension and NI.

They keep moving the goal posts. Phone Newcastle and get a pension quote. They are brilliant.

Several years ago I rang them because I realised I had a shortfall.

I had 33 years, at the time you needed 39. The lady said "yes you are short but wait until April before you decide" The following April they changed the rules and you only needed 30 years. She obviously knew in advance about the changes but wasn't allowed to tell me. Instead she just hinted and advised me to wait, so she saved me a lot of money.

I think it's now 35 years for current retirees but I'm not 100 per cent sure.

However, if you are not eligible for state pension for another 13 years you may find 35 years isn't enough. You need to speak to them.
  • LL got there before me!

I don' think you NEED 1 or 2 bluetooth speakers - totally not a necessity

Concentrate on paying off your debts, contact creditors with F&F figures now and see what happens. Surely it's far more important to get debt free than buy new toys!

As for the Patisserie - I'm rather gobsmacked! You've said your flat is luxurious, is there no kitchen?

I am a little concerned at how you keep talking about spending money, I get you need to wait till next year for work.

As soon as you're in the flat next week (if that comes off) register with a doctor and try to get a referral scheme to a weigh loss plan ( slimming world or weight watchers) and a referral to the gym

Good luck, I am following with interest
  • It's 35 years at the mo. or at least it was on Monday when I looked at ours! If you started in 1979 (child labour???) you should've past that AC but as LL has said, do check.

May I make a suggestion? I do have my trainers on to make a fast exit, just in case. I have nothing to do with the organisation other than being a member. I don't suppose something like slimming world has crossed your mind? I've just changed groups and there is at least half a dozen men there, very active (as in involved). One has lost ten stone this year. They will help you with food planning, exercise ideas (local walking groups etc) and advice on cooking. Marmite, I know. Just a thought.
