Wow! Thanks for the slapped wrists, the reality check and the beautiful houses etc.
Now , I have to be brutally honest about myself .
The main reason for not wanting to venture anywhere else other than the area I mentioned, is because I am scared. Yep, that's all there is to it.
It feels safer for some reason, to be only 2 hours away from London .
I did consider South Shields , but I don't know. Something tells me no.
If I was younger, maybe . It's my head doing overtime.
Speaking of taste, I am allergic to certain ( most good normal) foods.
This has stopped me going to certain countries; you can guess which ones Thailand etc.
I was thinking of going around the world for an extended break of 6 months, and start all over again on my return.
However, my age / health and rising prices in everything says no.
I always have said, I am a very fortunate person .
Misguided, but fortunate .
This Poole / parkstone thing may not work out . If not, then I have got plan c .
Lots to look forward to, but being single and alone at my age , I am probably a bit over the top and too dramatic worrying about everything.
I have my friend in Southampton , telling me parkstone and Poole are way too quiet for me. My friend in parkstone , telling me it will be tough getting a job.Lots going on in my head.
I've just got to shut up , and get on with it I guess.
The good advice here has been massive.
Hopefully, you can understand where I am coming from also.

AC, can I ask if you have any company or private pension to look forward to? I'm guessing no so you need to get to what 67 before State Pension kicks in?0
-
It is understandable that you are apprehensive AC but I think you are overthinking this. Possibly because you have everyone telling you different things from different perspectives. One of the reasons many of us suggested you rent rather than buy initially is because you don't know the area and to be frank your friends don't seem helpful.
Do you like to be in a busy place with lots of people cafes, pubs and shops nearby or do you prefer peace and quiet?
You obviously Need to be near transport links for if you get a job if you don't drive.
Much beyond those two points I don't see why only parkstone ticks your boxes. There are cheaper flats and houses in other areas of Poole. Canford Heath for example. You do need to be wise when spending this money given you probably have 10 - 15 years or more until your state pension kicks in.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Debt free Wannabe, Budgeting and Banking and Savings and Investment boards. Thanks Harz and enthusiastic .
Believe it or not, I have 2 pensions ( pittance , poor salary).
A couple of years unbroken here and there . May get me a loaf of bread.
Gvt pension ? Just over 13 years to go.(67) bar stewards , it was 65 .
Enthusiastic, I will look into cam ford Heath .
I want shops and peace and quiet
With parkstone, you have Ashley cross ,which has shops etc.
Bus to Poole / Bournemouth I have nightlife .
Where I am now, I am a 5 min bus ride to twickenham town centre.
10 mins to Richmond . Enough to be away from the trouble etc.
Being near transport and shops is paramount .
Looking at Blair avenue , for example . My friend said ,'great location, wife loves the walk etc.' Reassurance I think.0 -
AC, if you are going to consider other areas how about this one about one mile outside of Poole town and railway station, near to main road bus services and Hamworthy Park and shore:

I'd guess between £180k and £185k would do it.
Anyhow, night night it's getting late!0 -
Thanks Harz
Will look into it .0 -
AC - my only comment to add may have been said already - DO NOT resign from work until the exchange has gone through, if anything did happen with the chain then you would be royally screwed .
Enough of the negative talk though, it will all be fine
Good luck0 -
Thanks Anna:)
I understand . It does seem very near tho', and I'm
feeling stranger than usual .:)0 -
Just a little longer AC , keep your mouth shut and your head down

A positive attitude may not solve all your problems, but it will annoy enough people to make it worth the effortMortgage Balance = £0
