No AC. Signing doesn't count. It is not legal and binding.
ONLY EXCHANGE WILL DO. That is the point of no return.
Don't shell out a bean or comit yourself to anything until after exchange. Then you can get the ball rolling the very next day:rotfl:
Good that you've got 10 working days holiday, you can use that as part of your notice period. So, from exchange you realistically will only have to work another couple of weeks, if that.
It sounds like end of 0cotber would be perfick.
It will take a couple of weeks for the letting agents to do their thing anyway. Plus of course you need to get packed up, dispose of all unwanted stuff.
So my advice is try and get exchange early this week and then it's all systems go.0 -
Don't forget that a storage unit might well be cheaper than a second bedroom.0

The buyers want to be in my home ASAP . Rather than being obstructive to them or to myself , I know that October is the month and with all of the pressure .. Why not ?
Normally , I would give a months notice to my employers .
Screw them! Anyway , I have more than 10 days of holiday entitlement left.
I will obviously be polite , and politely explain my reasons for termination of contract .Its not a normal situation I am in , and I am not normal anymore.
Right - just done an hour in the garden cutting back and "tidying". Grass needs cutting but am contemplating a quote to gravel/slab that area so may never cut grass again (hoorah!).
AC - I don't think you are "jumpy". Thinking about stuff is entirely natural (says me, who is Olympic gold medallist in over thinking), and if nothing else means you will be prepared for the next step(s). I actually think you have been very positive recently although understand when the doubts creep in if you can't sleep. There is so much help and knowledge available on this MSE site (some nasty people as well unfortunately) that I think pretty much everything can be organised. I only know about DMPs through reading the various threads when youngest admitted the extent of her debt (she is now on DMP), but there are a lot of very experienced people to help. But I would also advise Nationwide that you are likely to be making a large deposit from house proceeds or there is a chance they will freeze the account pending investigations. Certainly look into a Credit Union account/other bank accounts and put some cash in there if possible so you are not dependent on one bank/building society for everyday cash.
This is the link for the flat I liked (http://www.rightmove.co.uk/property-to-rent/property-62150717.html). I thought it looked ok for the price, and for a 6 month period. Obviously you need to have different thoughts for a longer term rental. There is a studio flat as well which is £560 but that might be taking "downsizing" a bit too far (http://www.rightmove.co.uk/property-to-rent/property-56257381.html).
As regards work - would it be possible to get signed off by doctor for a couple of weeks and then hand notice in whilst on sick? I wouldn't normally advise anything like that but you have to put yourself first, and know that if they (work) wanted to get rid of you they wouldn't worry about being totally honest or polite. You would have to keep your moving plans very quiet though.0 -
Did I say thanks ?
' only exchange will do !' Thanks LL . That's what I wanted to know .
Basically , when if ( as smodlet was describing ) the point of no return for either of us . Thanks for that major clarification
Regarding the work scenario : The wording wil be the usual spiel , on the letter of reignation . However , it will obviously be different when it will read , ' due to unforeseen circumstances my final date may be .. , which will have to be be discussed '.
Regarding my rent situation ( and briefly my current Acct ):
When making calculations , I rounded up '£6,000 rent for six months '
I have for the last few months , going up to my overdraft limit of £1,500 .
Disappointed , to put it mildly .
I really really need a new bed . After coming out of cafe Nero this morning , I know how John Wayne felt when he got thrown off of his horse .
Back to have a rest now0 -
Forgot to mention : work again . I'm sorry , but this is a funny situation.
I know I've mentioned it before , but I have a final written warning suspended for 2 years . Less than one year left .
My employers , may well say 'you don't need to see out your notice and can leave now.'
Either way , a no lose situation
My solicitor did say ,' end of October is reasonable '. So, we'll see .
Hoping that the bill for the fascia will not be too much .0 -
One more thing , regarding renting . References .. no job soon .
How do I proceed ? How many will they require ?
Thanks
I just emailed solicitor, asking for exchange of contracts this week .0 -
I rented when I sold the family home. No references, hadn't rented in over 40 years. No job either.
I just showed the agent a copy of my bank statement and they were happy with that. I offered to pay 6 months up front, provided I got a discount, but they didn't bite.
In your case, maybe a letter from your solicitor to say that funds will be available due to house sale. Your bank might want that anyway as a condition of giving you an advance or short term loan.
Re how to handle DMP. I'm sorry but can't give you best advice there. I understand you want to make a clean break offer, no harm in asking.
Do you have to do this straight away. If it's interest free Would it be better to play for time, buy your next property first and then settle your outstanding debts with what's left.
Would that be allowed.
It would reduce your capital so they might be more prepared to do a deal than if they saw £200k plus sat in your account.
Can you place the bulk of your funds where they can't see it by Opening more bank accounts etc.
Just tossing a few ideas out there, I've no idea how these people work.0 -
Thanks LL
I don't have to do anything until Feb ,when I get an annual review.
What normally happens: budget breakdown . They then decide how much I pay each month until the following year. The more cash I have left in my account, the more I pay off . If things go the other way, Payplan would take less each month. Payplan have been brilliant .
I have 2 flex accts with nationwide. One, for where my salary is paid into each month, and the other for saving . Nothing in there
I gave the solicitor the other flex account ,,hoping that nothing is noticed by Payplan . You're not supposed to have an overdraft with Payplan either, but they haven't pulled me up as yet.
When Payplan contact me, they will notice a change of address .
They will notice , no job either. So, I can only hope .
As I say, I will be looking to split the cash into various accts with different companies, including a credit union . Fun times ahead there .
If I do eventually buy a 1 bedroom , then there's more to stash away for a rainy day.
Back to renting : I notice there are quite a few tharpt say, 'no pets'.
Okay, no barking dogs . Great ! But what about cats ?
I will miss seeing the ones in the close. Including the neighbours 30 -
Doubt they Accept cats either.:(
Goldfish, hamster, lizard or gecko???
It's normally the furry types that scratch, chew and pooh all over the place that landlords object to.
Having said that when I did lettings I once saw a rental flat where the lndlord had taken pity and allowed guinea pigs. I doubt he'll do that again, the place was disgusting, the floor coverings beyond redemption, kitchen base units chewed and it stank to high heaven.
Our cat has just come in after chasing "creatures" outside. I know some flat dwellers do keep cats as purely house cats but personally I think it's cruel. They are hunters and like to roam.0 -
February you say......that gives you a good three months to find your onward purchase, thus reducing your capital so you may well be able to negotiate yourself a deal.0
