My barclays and Natwest online banking card has a chip!

I can use it in any pinsentry device, currently working in COOP's one as the Barclays one never arrived.

No money has been taken. It's a card for use with the pinsentry card reader for Internet banking access, debit card size but with no chip. So they couldn't use it in a shop, withdraw from an ATM etc but could transfer money online. Yes, the replacement card that was sent to my house has my sort code & account number on it but someone else's name.

So where is this card now? From what you say above it would appear that you have it otherwise how are you even aware of the situation and how can you know what sort code and account number are written on the card unless somebody who shares your address with you has it, has shown it to you but is refusing to hand it over.
Also I would assume internet banking passwords are required to long on to your internet banking so unless this person also has these how could that person transfer money online or even access your account for that matter?

    No they couldn't.

Unless they also have your login details they have absolutely no access to your account and definitely cannot transfer money.

If you're worried why not just switch the account away from Barclays? That would close the account and transfer your money.

If Barclays block the switch then there's another reason to complain to them. They've been told you don't feel secure and won't solve the problem until they have investigated it. It can't come as a huge surprise to them that a customer in your situation would want to switch.

I don't understand what the panic is. No money is missing, there are no unauthorised transactions. Barclays are looking into it for you, it's probably just an error when the new card was produced. I could understand your anger if you had lost money, just calm down and wait for Barclays to contact you. The FOS obviously weren't too concerned or they would have contacted Barclays for you.

I refuse to believe that Barclays' (or any other) pinsentry card reader can work with a card with no chip.

I think you're right, but I think the OP may just not be as familiar with the terminology as we are. I have a Pinsentry card from NatWest that does indeed have a chip on it but is of no use for anything other than the generation of a code on the device. I suspect this is what the OP means, although as I don't bank with Barlays I can't be sure what they issue.

    I do.

It's the one compatible with Nationwide, Coop/Smile etc.(?).

That said, Natwest one looks identical to Nationwide's:post-2109-0-22971200-1366904029.jpeg
If it can work with some 'digital banking card' instead of a debit card, then it is a possibility that Barclays' one can too. However, I don't understand how it can be done without a chip.

Yes, my NatWest card works in my Nationwide reader, and I'd assume the other way round is true too. I'm sure you're right (as I agreed previously) that a chip is required, and I think that the OP has just got a bit confused about what they actually have.

I have been with Barclays for many years and have had various debit/credit cards with them.

I have never had a card from them without a "chip" indeed to my understanding that is where the account info is stored and without the chipBarclays card reader will not work. This seems to be confirmed as when I am given a replacement card Barclays advise you to destroy the card by cutting through the chip.

OP have you tried to put the unauthorised card in Barclays pin sentry. reader, press identify and if it has as you suggest no chip you will not be able to input any data.

If it lets you input then put your pin in and see if it will give you a code for use with on line banking, only then will you know whether the card is valid, if it is then this will help in your complaint.
