Unauthorised access to account

I am disgusted with the way Barclays have handled my complaint. Not only have they given another person access to my account in error but they have done nothing about it for the last four weeks!!! All I keep being told is they have 8 weeks to investigate & will get back to me. But in the meantime an unauthorised person has access to all my money!!! I no longer feel safe banking with Barclays.

Has anyone had a similar problem?? & how was it resolved?? Barclays keep saying I cannot take it any higher but there must be something I can do!! They even refuse to remove the other persons access whilst they are investigating!!

You need to provide more info for people to give you any advice. 8 weeks is the standard complaint response time, you can go to the FOS if you're unhappy with how Barclays are dealing with this. Is your account joint with this "unauthorised" person ? If it is, they can't just stop the other person using the account.

I am mystified by this - Barclays have given your bank account details to another person and are allowing that person to withdraw money from your account?
  • No this account is my personal account, nobody else should have access. I have already contacted the FOS but they are unable to get involved until the 8 weeks is up. Two months is a long time for someone else to be able to access my money!!
  • They have issued an authorisation card that is linked to my account. They first issued it in 2009 & recently sent a replacement card, however sent this one to my address with someone else's name on the card. Luckily I have not noticed any dodgy transactions but horrible to know someone else has had access to my money all this time!!

I understand what your going through but the bank will put it right or the ombudsman will put pressure on the bank.

Have you tried complaining higher up in barclays eg the chief exec ?
  • Not gone to CEO level no, will try writing, thanks. When I asked to speak to a manager today I was told my complaint was already a level 2 which was the highest & there was nobody higher than her there at the time that I could speak to. When I asked if a manager could ring me back she said no we're not allowed to ring people back!! Their customer service throughout this has just been appalling!! I have been kept on hold a total of two hours so far & when I finally do get through they are so unhelpful & rude!
  • So how much money has been withdrawn from your account by this mysterious third party?

    What's "authorisation card"?
How do you know that "someone" really has any access to to your account?

If it's a debit card, a sole account and you have your card, there cannot be any second person with a debit card and access. Possibly it was just a technical error. Are you sure that this mysterious card has your account details on it?
  • No money has been taken. It's a card for use with the pinsentry card reader for Internet banking access, debit card size but with no chip. So they couldn't use it in a shop, withdraw from an ATM etc but could transfer money online. Yes, the replacement card that was sent to my house has my sort code & account number on it but someone else's name.

I refuse to believe that Barclays' (or any other) pinsentry card reader can work with a card with no chip.
