Decided to have a look at my online mortgage account to see what kind of impact the last 6 months' of OPs have had on my interest.

In June, my daily interest was £38.23, whereas in Dec it was £37.99. So I've knocked off 24 pence per day or £7.19 per month so far.

This is obviously not a huge amount but it's money I'll never have to pay the banks again and it's really rather satisfying to see my OPs having an actual impact on my loan :)

So Saturday started with something falling off the top shelf off of the bathroom cabinet and making a hole in the sink... The hole is tiny from above but the impact has somehow made a good 5 cm diameter of porcelain shatter on the underside of the sink. I've glued the big pieces back on and will try a sink repair kit before I got ahead and buy a new sink, as I'd really rather not spend the money :(

On the slightly brighter side though - yesterday I had to do some admin such as buy wedding insurance and replace a hoover attachment, and remembered to use £co for both transactions! Can't believe I've gone through life without using that website more often :)

Sorry to hear about the sink :mad:

I used £co and TCB years ago but they didn't have the shops on board as much back then. :money:

hope sink repair kit does the job
Made it to mortgage free but what a muddle that became

In the event the proverbial hits the fan then co-habitees are better stashing their cash than being mortgage free !!

Thanks guys, I'll keep you posted on the sink!

Meanwhile, the boss man told me today that I'll be getting a monetary reward for having finished my qualification :D. This could range from £250-1000 and probably closer to the former but it's all much better than nothing so I am excited. He also said I'll be getting promoted once my certificate comes through but to be honest I had an interview last week that went great and another two lined up so I doubt I'll be sticking around anyway...

I'm definitely bricking it ahead of this Thursday's interview though, I reckon it'll be really tough :(

  • Will keep my fingers crossed for your interviews - always nice to have options to choose from!
  • Hi Petal88. I've just caught up with your diary and will be subscribing! Good luck with your interviews, fingers crossed for you. I'm in the process of applying for new jobs myself. And I look forward to reading more of your MFW journey!

Thanks for crossed fingers guys! The interview was HORRIBLE, with the interviewer throwing case study questions at me on technical stuff I've never worked on before - so I left the office feeling pretty defeated. Turns out the loved me though and have asked me back for TWO back to back interviews at the end of this week. I'm not sure my poor heart/mind can handle any more difficult questions though :rotfl:

In MSE news though - I've ended up disputing my €on gas meter readings as the zero in front of the numbers seems to have dropped off and has caused my monthly gas/elec bill to go from £38/month to £89!

My mortgage + interest got paid/slapped on this week and it's crazy that it's taken us 9 months to get from 316 to under 312. Just goes to show how much interest they're putting on... Last month's OP knocked another 3p/day off the daily interest which is probably the epitome of baby steps in terms of mortgage freedom :D

Signed up for a free trial of YNAB on Monday to see what the fuss is about + I love budgets and I wanted to see if I could save any money with it at all. So far so good although I'm not sure I'd be subscribing to it after the trial as I have a feeling I'll just fall out of love soon and stop using it just like all the other budgetting apps I've tried :p

FWIW I've been using YNAB (Classic/v4) since August 2014 and am still in love with it. Tried the new version and didn't like it at all (the few things I did like had limited functionality and bugs), but YMMV. :) That version is still available on Steam if you want to avoid a subscription fee (though official support of it ends in 2017).

Thank you hiddenshadow, I had no idea I could get the old one off of steam or that it was a one off payment on there! I'll see how the rest of the month goes and whether or not it'll be worth me getting it.

I had that second and third interview last Friday and it was the complete opposite of the first round! I spent two hours being interviewed and didn't once feel like I didn't know what to say or that what I said sounded awful. They clearly liked me as well, as my recruiter got back to me within 15 minutes of me leaving the office to let me know I was through to the final round :T.
So that's tomorrow at 8.30am and includes an interview with HR as well. I am a little nervous about talking about salaries as that's nothing I've ever had the opportunity to negotiate before and I'm scared of selling myself short as I still don't know what salary the promotion at my current workplace would be (and won't know for a few months yet). In addition, I need the new employers to pay off my study fees at my current job, which I'm worried about securing.... Basically I'm a massive worrywart if people hadn't caught on to that yet! :p
