Lanzarote- Puerto Del Carmen or Playa Blanca

  • If you like walking, there is a great free walk on the volcano in the Timanfaya National Park. It is much better than the crowded tourist coach trips.

We went a few years back and the guide was superb.

The National Park Authorities run these walks which must be pre-booked and numbers are limited to eight people per day.

I am not allowed to post links for some reason???

    Search in for

Another quick question guys lol :)

In Playa Blanca is there still excurions that can be done, looking at the south and the north excursion and volcanos? thanks

Yes, plenty of excursions you can book. Try lastminute-transfers or visit their office in Playa Blanca. Also Tourist Ticket do excursions and they've got an office in PB as well.

As has been said, you can do a guided walk. I see you've asked the question on Trip Advisor. Delboy, a DE for Playa Blanca has done one of the walks. He booked it through Tourist Ticket and the company that did it was Kayak and Walk, and they picked him up from his apartment. He's got a full report complete with loads of photos which have a link to them posted on Trip Advisor. Part of the walk he did, we (myself and OH) just did ourselves last month.
  • Yes, you can book a package with Jet2 - look for the Jet2holidays tab. We've used them a couple of times and they've been excellent - great value, efficient transfers and no hard selling of excursions etc.

Once got a week's B+B in a 4 star hotel in Tenerife, hold luggage and transfers for only £100 pp more than the cost of flight only on exactly the same flight.

I think with Monarch, the initial package price doesn't include hold luggage or transfers, you have to add these separately - just to make sure you are comparing like with like.

Playa Blanca is lovely, and the Volcano park (Timanfya) is a must do tour.

You can also walk up the red mountain, which is a small extinct volcano behind PB or take a day trip on the ferry to neighbouring Fuerteventura (you can see it across the sea).

    Thanks :)

Is the Timanfya something that can be done without a tour guide? thanks

If you have a hire car you can drive there yourself and then you have to get on one of the park coaches to be driven round the lava fields. A recording gives information in English/Spanish during the trip. Aim to get there early before all the tour buses. It's about 9 euro per person and is well worth the cost. The cafe/restaurant is also quite reasonably priced.

If you don't have a hire car, your best bet is probably an organised tour - hotels have leaflets or you can find them in resort - I think Last Minute mentioned upthread have a good reputation.
  • Just for clarification, Monarch packages do include 20kg checked luggage in their prices. They don't include transfers though. They are optional.

We have been to playa blanca 3 times and absolutely love the place. When we went in July we stayed at marconfort Atlantic garden bungalows. Its adult only and we had the most relaxing, chilled out holiday.its a lovely complex on the sea front and the food and facilities were great. We booked through Thomas cook it it cost about £1300 for a week all inclusive at the end of July. Looking to go back next summer but for a fortnight next time :)
