As you say - the problem was the friendship. My rentees were business associates and were excluded from the lounge for that exact reason. They had use of the kitchen and bathroom. There were only two rules a) you pay your rent on tiome or you're out. b) You don't upset the neighbours and I'm one of the "neighbours". They paid the bills and I paid the mortgage in theory.
I agree - the problem was, I was a guy in my mid 20s and he was the same age. He moved to the town where I lived for work, and didn't really know anyone except his work colleagues. So when I was going out I used to invite him and therefore most of his 'local' friends were also my friends. We did get on really well (when I went into hospital, he came to see me every day). I should never have mixed business and friendship. Having said that despite the arguments about money we are still friends today so it's not all bad.
With "small parcel" items like that I tend to charge £3.50 P&P - ebay rips off 10% of your postage so I put some of the fees in the P&P - Plus there's actually a lot of work in packing it up and biking round to the PO with the big rucksack on my back ! The punters don't mind at all but ebay doesn't like it much !

I might try increasing the postage on some of my future items, but I wasn't confident this one would sell at all. It was on its second listing starting at 99p and only got its first bid yesterday. I calculate fees at £1.14, postage £2.80 so that's still a profit of £3 on basically a piece of junk*

*That's not what I wrote on the Ebay listing!
  • Another £20 overtime for me.

While I'm glad for the extra money, I'd rather be meeting my targets by other means without relying on work.

  • Never quite made the challenge last month but still happy with the results. Off cooker shopping this week (finally).

Kicking off this month with £4.23 from tips yesterday. Day off today but feeling very poorly. Really need to look after myself. My lungs are failing me. Need to say no to all the extra overtime at work. Lol.

The book challenge looks great! Good luck with that....Wish I could do it.

Have a good day everyone.... Happy new month!

  • I'd seen a lottery win posted up, wasn't sure if gambling was counted but as it seems to be, I'll post it up.:)
I'd put £10 in an online poker account last week. Over the past couple of days I've turned it into £76.

Took out £60, so £50 "made" and £16 left to play with and my stake returned. Just to add the £10 was just for a little bit of fun and I was quite willing to lose it, I've just been a bit fortunate.

Don't seem to be able to register with Pinecone Research, I'll try again. Waiting to hear back from Shop and Scan, they appear to have a list.
Finally, I'll need to raid the OHs phone for kitten pictures of our cat.

Theres £41 being tracked through Quidco, hoping thats paid by the middle of the month.
  • Morning all,

I cashed in my points with EON and got a £10 highstreet voucher which arrived this morning, does this count? If so I'm off the mark with £10/£150 :D

Need to look for items to sell on ebay.

well done! yes we do include wins from onnline bingo, in house bingo, casino etc.

We just are careful of encouraging people to gamble with money they cannot afford to lose. But you sound very sensible and only played with money you were happy to lose.
  • Great to see so many new people on the thread and everyone already making some lovely money:j:beer:

Unusually for me I've got off to a quick start too. Just received £39.80 from TCB for car breakdown cover. Wasn't scheduled to be paid until early next year so I'm chuffed:T

£10 win on the scratchcard that a friend put inside my birthday card last week (we don't buy each other presents but usually include a scratchcard each year:))

    Have a great month, everyone:beer:
