I only buy wholemeal bread and regularly make bread pudding with the leftovers. I don't like bread & butter pudding (which is totally different) but that can also be made with wholemeal bread. HTH :D.

You're absolutely right! I always get those two mixed up :p

I've never tasted either so can't distinguish between the two :o

    Bread pudding

You can make fantastic croutons (with the leftover bread, even better if its dried out a bit!)- they use a lot of butter though! I fry in butter and maybe flavoured oil (last tme i used garlic/chilli oil) and sprinkled rock salt and grated cheese on them. So delicious, but i may as well have just injected butter into my butt! :rotfl:

  • Does anyone have a recipe for bread pudding?

I mean the one with sultanas that reminds me of me nan......the kitchen would be filled with the smell of nutmegcinnamon etc.

We would eat it hot or cold, cut into squares.

    Thanks,

It's quite simple, this one for example:

my nana used to soak the stale bread in cold tea instead of water or milk.

I used the one that's in the recipe index at the front of the Grocery Challenge. I made it earlier this week. It was scrummy, would thoroughly recommend. Made it the other day, went down a treat with the kids, perfect for this cold weather. They have been asking for more!

    Hi la farfallina,

As your thread has dropped down the board I've added it to the main thread on bread pudding which has lots of recipes that should help.

I am making a bread pudding at the moment and was wondering if I could substitute jam for sugar.
I do have sugar, but also have 2 pots of jam (friend made) that are just hanging around, so I guess I won't use them.
If so how much would I put in? Will it burn the pudding?
    Help please.

I have heard fo bread and butter pudding with marmalade (Delia Smith) but not jam...i think that you still need a bit of sugar in the custard.

In answer to my own question......................I put about 1/2 a jar of jam in the mix and it came out fine much to my surprise!
I just added it with the ingredients and swished it all together, didn't burn or go wet and is just as sweet as I normally make it.
Sometimes you just have to give it a go I guess???
