I use the recipe that my grandma gave me:
4 slices of bread (any type will do)
3 tablespoons of Self Raising Flour
3 tablespoons of Suet
3 tablespoons of Sugar
1 teaspoon of Mixed Spice (or just sprinkle it over the top of the mixture.. which is what I do xD)
4 oz Dried Fruit (or just pour as much as you would like in the pudding into the mixture)
1 Egg.
Soak bread in water for 30 minutes
Put the bread in a colander and squeeze out all the water.
Pre-heat the oven to Gas Mark 5 or 190 degrees (for an electric run oven).
Put in a mixing bowl and add the ingredients.
Mix with the egg.
Grease a dish with marg.
Put the mixture in the dish and cook in the oven for about 1 hour.
The thing is, I find that following the exact recipe, results in a very thin bread pudding. I tend to add half to it all so it ends up being:
6 slices of bread (any type will do.. I sometimes use 4 white and 2 wholemeal or leftover hot cross buns at Easter)
4.5 tablespoons of Self Raising Flour
4.5 tablespoons of Suet
4.5 tablespoons of Sugar
1 teaspoon of Mixed Spice (or just sprinkle it over the top of the mixture.. which is what I do xD)
4 oz Dried Fruit (or just pour as much as you would like in the pudding into the mixture).
2 Eggs.
Voila.. a thick and yummy bread pudding :T. If you wanted to make it bigger, you would have to double the mixture etc.
Good luck in making your bread pudding.Competition Wins:

Hi everyone, I apologise now if this has already been asked...
Basically I only ever buy wholemeal bread, but the ends are never eaten. Ive now had the bright idea to freeze them before they go mouldy to feed the ducks with my so every now and then. Then I thought can I make bread pudding with it!?
If anyone else has ideas of what to make out of it do let me know. to be honest im not that keen on it as a sandwich or toast which is silly i know!!
I know there must be some recipes for bread pudding on here so Ill look (watching someone make it on scrimpsavers gave me the idea!) is it as simple as replacing stale white bread to stale wholemeal ends??
Thanks in advance!!!0 -
Leftover bread has loads of ideas. To me wholemeal bread and b pudding sounds a bit odd but you could try it!:p

I only buy wholemeal bread and regularly make bread pudding with the leftovers. I don't like bread & butter pudding (which is totally different) but that can also be made with wholemeal bread. HTH

I blitz mine up to make breadcrumbs, then freeze them in a bag. I use the breadcrumbs to make stuffing usually, but sometimes use them to coat chicken pieces or fishcakes.0

Thanks ever so much to you both! I have had a good read of the leftover bread thread and cant wait to make some!0

I make bread pudding with wholemeal bread and it's lovely, BUT i find the crusts are still a bit too dry in it. You might be better using them for breadcrumbs instead.Living cheap in central London :rotfl:0
