When hubby had scarring after skin cancer ops, he was advised to use rosehip oil. It wasn't cheap, but was very effective.0

All sizes of Bio oil are half price starting today at Well Pharmacy (used to be co-op pharmacy). So that makes the large 200ml bottle only £9.99. Bargain!0

I've used Bio oil on an old appendix scar which did fade a bit (I wasn't very good at using the oil very often though).
My sister though, swears by Palmers scar reduction oil and says she had better results using it. I've not tried the latter so can't comment myself, but she did have twins and seems to have gotten off scot-free in terms of stretch marks!0 -
My plastic surgeon said not to use Bio Oil. she said that it is ok for old scars, not new ones. This was just 3 months ago by the way.
She said to massage my scars with E45 or aqueous cream, which I have been doing. Also as someone else has said, rosehip oil is also good. In fact after googling scar management, I discovered that anything with vitamin A or E in is good.
A friend also recommended AVST gel, so I bought some of that too. So I tend to use all of the above items at different times.
Seems to be doing the trick!Mortgage free as of 10/02/2015. Every brick and blade of grass belongs to meeeee. :j0 -
The main reason these products improve scars is the fact that they need massaging in, so actually all you need is something mega cheap that allows you to massage the area.0

This is very true, it's the massaging that does the trick. However I would be loathe to recommend petroleum based products such as Vaseline on new skin tissue.
Natural oils are safer.if money really is anissue then good old olive oil will be as good as anything but if you can afford it then bio oil is recommended by most surgeons.0 -
If you have a problem scar (keloid tissue) or one in a prominent place such as facial you can get silicon gel on prescription from your consultant or GP. Obviously you can buy it yourself but it's not cheap at approx £25-£30 a tube but well worth it as bio-oil wouldn't make any significant difference to this type of scaring.0

Yep i have scarring so not fortunate.:T0 -
My DD was one of those unlucky people who got bitten by a false widow spider. The resulting lesion did not heal for months. Finally it closed over and we got the ok from the dr to use something to minimise the scarring. I almost bought bio-oil, but on the advice from staff at a health food shop bought both apricot oil and wheat germ oil. If you look at the ingredients of bio-oil is is basically liquid petroleum with a few bits added. In other words expensive baby oil. IMHO it is not worth the price tag. Ask in a health food store or do some research online. You need an oil with vitamin e & a to minimise the scarring, along with the massaging it in.No buying unnecessary toiletries 2014. Epiphany on 4/4/14 - went into shop to buy 2 items, walked out with 17!0
