Bio oil for scar tissue, any users?

  • I have quite a big scar right in the middle of my forehead where I cut it open as a toddler (managed to trip and bang my head on a radiator...) That was about 25/26 years ago now so obviously NOT a new scar! But the skin is very puckered so since I grew my fringe out it's very noticeable. Is bio oil likely to make any difference at all, do you think? Or should I just leave it and carry on with my Harry Potter forehead :D

£8.60 for how many mis? 125?

You should find it cheaper from several online pharmacies (from £7.50-£8.00). . . .There should be some others but this was just a quick search and two places I often use (sorry can't link). Also obviosuly savings to be made for buying larger bottle. £23.50 for 400mls. . . thats about £1 cheaper per 100ml compared to smaller size.

This is very true, it's the massaging that does the trick. However I would be loathe to recommend petroleum based products such as Vaseline on new skin tissue.

Natural oils are safer.if money really is anissue then good old olive oil will be as good as anything but if you can afford it then bio oil is recommended by most surgeons.

Bio oil is petroleum based. It is just expensive orange baby oil.

My DD was one of those unlucky people who got bitten by a false widow spider. The resulting lesion did not heal for months. Finally it closed over and we got the ok from the dr to use something to minimise the scarring. I almost bought bio-oil, but on the advice from staff at a health food shop bought both apricot oil and wheat germ oil. If you look at the ingredients of bio-oil is is basically liquid petroleum with a few bits added. In other words expensive baby oil. IMHO it is not worth the price tag. Ask in a health food store or do some research online. You need an oil with vitamin e & a to minimise the scarring, along with the massaging it in.

I still can't believe people actually buy it, it does go to show how much advertising works.
I use a mixture of sweet almond oil or similar with rosehip oil, vitamin E oil and wheat germ. Works really well and so much better for you.
  • I agree with the above. . . you can do a DIY oil that will be just as good or better, for cheaper. Depends if you are confident with the mixing (which is pretty easy!)
