Mobile Roaming: Cheapest Calls When You're Abroad

http://www.simstogo.co.uk/index.php
My daughter is at the end of a month trip to Kenya with the school, as she is just 17 I wanted to be in contact with her most days for my peace of mind, yes I'm a worrier mum.
Pros
Cost, this was a lot cheaper than the O2 sim card she took with her as a back up and as we chatted for about 10 mins most days didn't break the bank.
Missed Calls, although there was no voicemail it did register missed calls
Uses different Networks, as my daughter was traveling around a lot she used various networks, if she had bought a local sim card she would have been stuck
Cons
Pricing, wasn't always what was quoted, I was charged when I called her and she didn't pick-up, the prices I was quoted weren't always accurate, calling her from my mobile cost 40p a min although I was quoted 20p and calls from her to my landline were 22p but I was quoted 20p, calls from my landline (Plusnet) were 19p a minute even if there was no connection. This pricing is still a lot cheaper than the 'big boys' so no big deal.
Customer Services, I have e-mailed them twice, first time I was given incorrect information, second time I got no reply.
Overall I'd use it again and I'd give it a 7/100 -
ziggy, they also say this:
"Remember that friends and family calling a SimstoGo SIM from a UK BT landline will only pay 10p/min no matter which country in the world it is in."
Do you know if this correct, or haven't you tried it?0 -
I've only called her a few times on my landline, I'm with Plus.net and I was getting charged 19p a minute. I forgot to say in my review when there was no connection and I could not get through I still got charged.0

Hi,
Can somebody who has purchased a Sim2Go product please confirm the first six digits of the phone number supplied with the card? ie 078722
I want to check with O2 if calls to Sim2Go numbers are taken from my inclusive minutes.
I've tried to contact Sim2Go directly but they are having server issues and the contact form isn't working.
Thanks!0 -
Mobile data roaming - for email and tourism research on the go - is a really black art, maybe there needs to be a separate thread or has anyone good good ideas here? I'm interested in Europe and Asia.0

I have an iphone on O2
I got home from holiday last week to a £45 data roaming bill, even though I had data roaming turned off. I spoke to o2 and the lady asked me if I used wi fi abroad. When I told her I did, she told me that if the wi fi drops out, then it reverts to normal internet. Firstly, is that true? Secondly, if it is, what's the point of turning data roaming off if it can turn itself on again!Even if you are a minority of one, the truth is the truth.0 -
I only ever travel abroad with a pay as you go sim in the phone. In some countries it means I have no roaming at all even for phone calls. And because of the cost of data roaming I use WiFi only. All this is revenue lost to the mobile networks - they prefer to catch the income from mistakes like the one that happened to flyer above or by overcharging gullible contract phone users, rather than pursue a market for economical roaming.0

There may be other ranges, depending on reseller or batch - 077000 078722 or 079245
They will be from O2's inclusive minutes, but this isn't the case on all networks.
Note also that there is apparently still an issue with sms from O2 not being received on these SIMs.0 -

I don't have an iPhone, but having seen such comments over and over again, including an article by Martin Lewis, I think if I did get one I'd try to edit the access point before leaving the UK to make it invalid0 -
As far as I was aware, I had it switched off. I have disputed it with O2 and am awaiting their responseEven if you are a minority of one, the truth is the truth.0
