    Hi
I have searched but cannot find a definitive answer.

if i call my parents mobile in spain(they have a local sim) using 18185, do they also get charged for receiving the call?

they seem to think they do

    thanks in advance

my daughter is off to france working for 3 months,

she is in the middle of a fixed 18 months contract with 3,

she doesnt want to buy another sim and cannot unlock her phone.

so are there any cheap options for her to phone home - ie uk mobile in france calling uk landline
    and also vice versa?

i have checked the 'lower your call costs' thread, and looked at several of the recommended sites ie pennyphone (which seems to be the cheapest one for landline to mobile)

    any suggestions?

Vodafone is abolishing roaming costs for the summer. So, it will cost her whatever it costs in the UK to make and receive calls. You may want to look into that.

she is tied into a contract with 3....!

to switch to vodafone is adding extra cost onto what she will already be paying

That was amongst the suggestions on a separate thread about this

i know but since then she has decided she wants to take her 3 phone with her, seeing as she is paying monthly for it anyway...

so was trying to work out cheapes way for her/us to contact each other with what we currently have ie her 3 mobile to our uk landline

If she uses 3 she pays 3's tariffs. Obviously the incoming calls are cheaper than outgoing, so you might call her. For other outgoing calls she might use a callback system, thus pay that provider's tariff plus the 3 incoming rate; this doesn't give huge savings against the outgoing rate anyway.

Using another phone would be cheaper, and the inclusive minutes on 3 could be used to forward to a Vodafone SIM, as discussed before.

yes, but the vodafone sim will be an additional cost over and above what she is already paying

we are planning to call her mostly... but wasnt sure which of the landline deal makers was the best to use ie pennyphone

  • Re; advise for boss

Thank you iceburn and redux for your thoughts. Have been unable to respond earlier due to illness.

I am going to get him a payg vodaphone sim for most of his trips (france, malta, australia) and thought that he would be better off buying a sim card when actually in South Africa and forwarding his calls from his O2 phone to spare phone with this sim in it?

    Does this sound about right?

Sorry if asking obvious questions, but finding whole thing a bit overwhelming!
