Tuesday 27th October - What MSE things will you do today?

When we start out on the DFW trail we do loads of "big stuff" that makes quite a difference to our situation. These include having our lightbulb moment, cutting up the credit cards and cancelling Sky and the gym .

But once we have done the bigger stuff, we often feel that we are not making the same amount of progress, when in fact the small steps are helping us form good financial habits and helping us get closer everyday to staying in control and becoming debt free, or staying debt free.

Examples could be hanging washing out instead of using the tumble dryer or leaving your purse/wallet at home to avoid the risk of spending.

So be proud of those small steps, they really are important :money:

Morning folks - hope no-one minds me starting this thread this morning (& sorry I got the title wrong & can't change it) but I'll be off to work soon

So - my day looks like

    Proactive MSE-ing

    • Car share with DH - we do this most days anyway (40 min drive to work in the same town) but today he's working late so I need to wait an extra 90 minutes for him. Pain in butt but think of fuel saving
    • Phone Co-op to see where my money for opening an acct with them is
    Winter prep
    • Probably none - maybe a bit of kindling chopping
    Christmas prep
    • Draw up Christmas list - pressies for who & what are they getting (and what do we have in already)

Round tuit (as in I'll get a round tuit) not strictly money saving but clears my mind

    • Clean out fridge
Good habit forming (28 days to set a habit into daily routine or something like that - I'm going for 1 a week)
    • Post on here once a day 2/28
    Happy cheapness and freeness
    • Watching Walking Dead tonight via Amazon Prime - probably all I'll be capable of after today's shift
And folks - that's all from me at the moment - I need more coffee. Will catch up with y'all this evening.

Hi ClootiesMum - thanks for the kick off :)

Hello to everyone else who follows :hello:

Hope things are good with y'all...?

Bob - hope you are feeling a bit better today - take it easy on yourself :coffee:
DNMS - how cheeky of the plasterer - you definitely did right! When we had workmen at our last place they ruined my rug and broke our bin lid - I was fuming but because it was through the EA we weren't paying them so didn't have any leverage. Do this for me girlie! :p

    Here's me:
    - Brekkie at home
    - Packed lunch
    - No 'Two for Tuesday' even though it's Tuesday :naughty: - food from stores!
    - Volunteer work - just need to post a letter but it seems like such hard work sometimes :(
    - Drying washing indoors - not in the TD ;)
    - Another survey - was quite impressed with how much I've saved - I used to cash out each £3 individually but I've left it build up over a few months and have £36 now.
    - Posh coffee at home - n3spresso machine is such a good gadget for me - my 30p coffee means I'm not fussed about spending £2.50 in C0sta
    - Bit of yoga/meditation course at home
  • Clooties mum - love the round tuit! I have a lot of those!

Back later with a post when I get to work :)

Morning  thanks for starting the thread Clootiesmum :)

La E lovely to see you again! How's the new house coming along???

Bob hope the doctor diagnosed you and gave you the right meds so you start feeling better today. Can't be easy with a newborn and being ill :A

Thanks for all the validation re the plasterer/door fiasco. I have a friend who is a carpenter and he is going to come and collect the door and repair it for £50 (he will cut the broken bit out and replace it with another piece) so that all works out well once it's done. It's a real pain as our house is 1930s and has a lot of the original features. We have tried to restore as much as possible and keep the original features (as well as keeping the costs down - we have spent around £12000 on the renovation and it has been a complete renovation including ripping out the kitchen, knocking down the wall of the dining room and making a large kitchen, replaced bathroom and have had 1/2 of the garden relandscaped. Pretty pleased with how low the cost has been we've added just under £40k to the property!). We did think about changing one of the doors but when we looked int it the style of door we have we couldn't find anywhere so it would have meant replacing all 5 internal doors if we wanted them to match.

    Small things for the day:

    *[STRIKE] check banking[/STRIKE]
    * [STRIKE]text carpenter and arrange for him to come and get the door[/STRIKE]
    * get oh to put our bed base up so I can photo and put on fleabay
    * All meals from stores
    * [STRIKE]check meal plan and get something out of freezer[/STRIKE]
    * photo things for fleabay and list this evening
    * start prep for interview
    * [STRIKE]look at job vacancies and decide which of the bookmarked ones I want to apply for[/STRIKE]
    * onepoll
*[STRIKE] gardening for at least an hour - carrying on with digging over the border. It's real hard work! One of the shrubs roots is going under a brick wall so am a bit worried it will grow back...[/STRIKE] Did an hour digging and have almost dug up all of the shrubs from the forth coming veg patch :j have set aside the lavender plant to reposition. Am about to go out and do another 1/2 hour while dgd's napping :T
    * put bulbs dug up from border into a pot
    * [STRIKE]take dgd to the park later for free entertainment/exercise[/STRIKE]
*[STRIKE] load of washing & put on the dryer[/STRIKE] managed to get it on the line as it was bright and breezy :D
*[STRIKE] pay cm for extra sessions over the last week[/STRIKE]

Ok think that's all I need to do today. Hope everyone has a great day x

    Morning all :)
Thanks for the start Clootiesmum :)
Didn't get much of my list done yesterday for reasons I won't bore you with (though O2 featured prominently ) so much the same today:

Bit of paperwork for business Done
Washing out on line, hopefully it will dry a bit before the rain that has been forecast arrives!

Sort out and label last 2 boxes of sales stock Done, now need to drag them up to the loft and put them away
    HM meals from stores Done
OH tells me we need a new shovel for cleaning out the wood burner - I will use gifted high street vouchers to buy this :) No spends needed apart from this Oops I went to the farm supplier to get the shovel, as I decided the extra petrol used for driving into town and parking would be more than the money saved on the shovel (it was only £3.99), and might have *accidentally* bought a lovely box of pansy plants too :o
Hoovering downstairs as pup has brought in loads of bits of bark and leaves from the garden and chewed them up all over the rug :(Done
Wash kitchen floor (pup again) Done
Clear out large cupboard in outhouse Done
Give DD back spare pushchair if she appears today Didn't see her today
Hope freecycle item is collected today as guess what? They didn't turn up yesterday  It has gone :T
Use up meat in fridge which is on its date, for dinner tonight Done
FPL, surveys and postal survey tasks *Done*
    Walked pup
Repotted some supermarket herbs to make them last longer :)
Heating has been on only in the bathroom and airing cupboard - not lit the wood burner yet, either :T

I'm sure there is more, so will pop back later.
Hope Bob is feeling better, and DNMS, if the plasterer caused damage, he, not you, should pay for it to be put right. That is why tradesmen have insurance.

Hope everyone has a good day :)

    Hi All

Been watching baking channel this morning and feel like I look like Ms Olson in her Canadian kitchen (possibly). She is so tidy and neat. I would have eaten it before she had finished her 8th stage of making it. Oh well!
    Today
Lovely client appointment on gorgeous mountain top. Will not be rushing back to office today.
DD is doing grocery shop and we have done menu plan.
Need to get DH to make a Drs appointment, coughed for months and refuses to go. Even my threat of don't complain to me when you are dead has not been effective!!!
Need to post envelopes to pay bills.
    Washing and ironing to do.
Need to knit 2 sleeves to finish yet another boy jumper. Am determind to use up the wool stash.
Does anybody do quilting, is it as difficult as I imagine or as easy as the missouri quilt co lady on you tube makes it look?

    Have fun all.
Hope you are better Bob. Love the pup saga Dawn W.

Maria I've made a couple of baby quilts in the past. It's not that difficult if you have a good tutorial to follow. I'm really a novice sewer and these came out lovely
