Afternoon all :hello: I hope everyone is ok. Survived first day back at work yesterday, although made easier by boss being off. He's back today, so the stuff has started to flow downwards:( However, I won't let it get to me. Positive mindset and all that
Anyway list for today:
PAD to CC, am really happy as to how much I have managed to reduce it by since doing this. Will continue
Swapped energy supplier yesterday, have adjusted my spreadsheet accordingly. I have calculated it will save me c£400 a year  Just need to submit meter readings
Boiler being serviced today (part of annual thing)
Meals from stores
Butchers order (must do this!!)
Freebie pizza from DM yesterday, who went out with B1G1F voucher for 3 of them so got a pizza (gratefully donated)
Picked last of green toms and put in paper bag with green banana. Hopefully they will come out red and yellow respectively in due course :rotfl:
Volunteer work later - Thanks for the reminder La E - I know what you mean about sometimes its a struggle
Went for a run (well let's not exaggerate, a trundle :rotfl:) did manage to not stop for the first time at home (did it on the flat last week whilst away)Will do for the next couple of times and then extend my route:D
Think that's all, have a good day everyone. Bob - hope you're ok.0 -
Greetings Tuesday Frugalistas,
Sending positive vibes to all poorly people, stressed people & sad people on here this morning.
And here is today's list of money saving activity:
*Pay-day, so my big Budget Day today. Reconciled October's budget. Set November's budget. Tight month ahead. Nothing so dire we can't manage, but the extra bits of expenditure we've had quite close together - all my dentistry, new lawn-mower & other bits & pieces, have meant that we don't have as big a buffer zone in Nov as I would like. Have set realistic budget though, so should be ok, unless we have a disaster. I usually split £200 between our 6 Savings Piggies, but have reduced this to £100 this month so as to give ourselves a bigger buffer zone on current account. Am not paying anything into Clothes, Leisure or Holiday Pigs this time. I like that this system is flexible.
*Paid CC in full - bigger than normal bill due to bloody lawnmower dying (but to be fair it was little more than some rust particles held together by an engine).
*Skimmed off an odd £1-47 to PAD across into Car Fund & updated signature.
*Did overnight laundry on Economy 7 tariff. Drying it on heated airer as it looks too damp & still outside to do much drying. It will help take the chill off the conservatory for tonight, when I want to set the table & have the fairy lights & candles on. Timer set for another cheap wash tonight.
*Paid 50p into my sealed pot.
*Did 6 supermarket feedback surveys (prize draws). I think it's high time I won one of these.
*Uploaded energy meter readings.
*Cooking nice anniversary meal tonight - 14 years married for me & the lovely mr f. Decided to make a meal at home instead of paying to go out. Tried to include as many things out of the freezer as possible to make space for some more batch cooking plus soon, some festive baking. Have been able to use stock, cream of watercress soup, home-grown green beans & baby carrots and a lump of white fondant icing.
*OK, what have I done with frozen fondant icing? Well, I didn't even know if it would freeze. I iced a big cake for an Easter family gathering & as always, had a chunk of icing left over. I chucked it in the freezer & this morning, I've worked some peppermint extract into it & made it into peppermint creams to serve after dinner tonight with coffee. I melted a bar of cheapmongous 30p Aldi dark chocolate & have half-dipped them in that. Have tested 2 or 3.....in the interest of science, of course, assessing the impact of extra low temperatures on fondant icing.......& they have worked fine! Shall remember this next time I have leftover icing as previously, it got binned :-O
*Dough prog used on bread machine to make tiny dinner rolls. For some reason, mr f loves these. I can't see that they are anything other than small white cobs, but there you go! Will be baking them in a minute.
*For main course, I'm cooking lamb shanks in cider - lamb shanks £3.31 for two in Waitrose. Dessert is the lemon posset I made yesterday. It's set well overnight. So, what I'm saying is I think that's a nice meal which will have cost us LOADS less than going out. We did buy a bottle of cava, but thought we deserved that, 14 years of putting up with each other :-)
*Cat not happy today. He left most of last nights dinner & was not impressed when a tiny bit of new food was added to it this morning & it was re-mashed. Cat owners will know all about re-mashing. he isn't actually fussy in terms of brands, flavours, etc, he just likes variety, so his ideal would be a new tin or pouch served up every meal time regardless of what he's got left in his bowl.......& with our Zero waste food policy, that isn't going to happen. He is sitting by my leg right now doing his most starving face!
OK, lunch time, then tarting up conservatory (it's our dining room) for romantic meal later.
Take care all,

CCL - Believe me, if you DID live anywhere near us, same goes for all the other regulars on here, I would have been sneaking regular deliveries of pears onto your doorsteps in the dead of night! I've not been able to meet up with two of my regular Pear People this year, & they usually have at least a 7lb bag full each. A Labour Party comrade took 2 stones of them, which was a big help (swapped with some of their allotment produce). Shame I don't live on the sort of street where I could put a table & honesty box outside our house, but I feel if I did that, the neighbours would be thinking 'What's she doing NOW?'. so it's had to be Pear Central in our house!
