  • Hi,
I completely lost track last week, but I know I was very close to my budget, I've rounded it up to £21 as I know for certain it wasn't more than that.
This week I'm doing well so far, having only bought bread, cheese and hot chocolate, but I'll need to stock up on a few things either today or tomorrow as I'm running out of things in my freezer!
  • had ot go tesco ended up spending £26.54 mainly on milk is it me or has milk really gone up in price??

got lots of fresh fruit and veg and did good no non essential spends

did buy a load of foil trays to make a load of crumbles in as my apples and pear trees have had there first crop picked and loads to get the tray were very expensive i felt at £1.59 for 6 and i needed 2 packs but did need them before the fruit goes rotten and i lose it all.

If You have a costco or similar near you they do a bumper pack in there and it works out FAR cheaper.....afraid I can't tell you how much cheaper as it's been so long since I bought them. You get about 50 small containers and 50 long ones. HTH
  • Well it's been my first month doing the GC and I managed to come in under budget every week! Just goes to show how much I overspent on groceries and didn't plan properly:rolleyes:

Let's hope it continues next month!

After my first month of the grocery challenge I have come in way under my £400 budget, so I am going so set my October budget at £300.

I have regularly spent more that £400 a month on food, but NO MORE!

Thanks for keeping me focused everyone:T
But these things take time, I know that I'm, the most inept that ever stepped.

mikeD no WAY!! I would love to offer but that would blow my budget :p Definately this week as we had huge sirloin steaks :D amazing what you find in the bottom of the freezer! It's been a real challenge working from stocks and trying to resist my hording urges but the result is well worth it!
Awwww come on lil_me, it would be just me and my DW and she's more or less vegetarian these days, so we wouldn't set you back too much. The thought of large sirloin steaks has me dribbling all over the keyboard :rotfl:.

More or less on budget this month and am going to reduce it a bit as DS is in Chicago until Nov 4th.

Welcome all newbies and good luck.

    Hi all

Congratulaions to those who came in under budget:T and to those of you (like me) who didn't......DON'T PANIC.......October is another month.

Talking of October I am drawing a line under this month and hopping on over to the new thread where I have set myself a more realistic budget to start from.
Spend for this week £95.00 exactly:eek:

See you on the other side (where my sig will be well and truly updated)

    Hi lil_me,

If you ever want to find any of the challenge threads that aren't 'stickied' just go to the top of the main Old Style page and immediately under The Old Style (Thrifty) Resource Bar there's a link to the Monthly Challenges.

My budget for Sept was £300, and have spent £310.15. Anyway, dispite going over budget I am pleased that I saw the challenge through (usually give up after 2 weeks  ) So will try again in October. Well done to everyone who came in under budget.:T

Jess I would count that as a success! its a relatively small amount over budget, and especially good if you're fairly new to the challenge

although it may be a disappointment, just thnk back to what you might have spent 6 months ago on food? ;)
... don't throw the string away. You always need string! :D
