Hello,
Am a newbie here, but am going to try the Challenge this month.
As it's my first, and I have no idea what I spend, am going to say £400, to give myself a nice wide margin. I've read the advice, and am going to total all receipts etc..,
This is for 2 adults, one child, one cat and various greedy friends...
Here goes...0 -
This was my second challenge - target 400 Spent 401. I am counting this as achieved.
I fell off the meal planning wagon a bit this week so we have had some waste - a chicken casserole defrosted not eaten, and beef defrosted to cook but left languishing in the fridge, so I will try not to do this next month. I have found it really helpful to capture the spend every week so will do this again.
I am in again for October, Daughter will be off to Uni so target 320 for the two of us. Will there be a new thread?

hi spirit
well done to you!:j :j :j .
Our board guide - Pink-winged - usually starts the new thread each month. I am not 100% sure but I think it is around the 28th or 29th of the month.
Look forward to seeing you on the October challenge.0 -
I'm rubbish at this!!
Not sure of final total (ebay has been taking up too much of my time!!!!) but think I went around £20 over budget!!

Hi I've been too ashamed to visit the thread and have been consoling myself on the flylady thread-. I may have overspent my food budget but my house is a whole lot cleaner (thanks lil_me and pigpen).
Started off on a bad foot as hosted and catered for my father's 80th birthday party. Food not expensive but nice and plentiful for 20.
Spent so far £378- aim £280 and still need to go to market for fruit and veg on Saturday so fairly spectacularly overspent. My aim is only the average of last years food spending (I write down every penny I (and DH )spend and have done so for a couple of years which has helped our overall solvency inmmensely!)
I think my "summer menu" food is more expensive than my "winter menus". I'm about to change over as the weather is soo cold so early this year and that may help. Lots more mince in the winter menus!!
However it is still better than my most expensive months. Will post total on Saturday if i have time- no point in pretending!!0 -
Have drawn a(RED) line under september at this stage and moved on.....will be away for first 8 days of October so have done some shopping in the hope that I won't need to shop for the best part of a week when I come back....DD4 and DGS2 will be here but she tends to buy their own food when I'm away.

I think you should cut yourself some slack here. I wouldn’t include birthday party food in my normal food budget; I believe some people have a celebration or party budget for stuff like this;... don't throw the string away. You always need string!

I have just been through my September bank statement and have been completely thrown by how much I spend on groceries! I can't believe it and am so shocked (I am trying to save - we are doing house things) that decided to try to stick to a budget and came across this thread - how perfect is that:p
I am going to try to stick to £400 a month for me, hubby and two kids to cover all cosmetics, nappies and food for the month. Can't believe how little people are feeding themselves on and am anxious to give it a go so going to try the supermarket saving websites.
Thanks for the helpful thread.

mikeD no WAY!! I would love to offer but that would blow my budgetDefinately this week as we had huge sirloin steaks
amazing what you find in the bottom of the freezer! It's been a real challenge working from stocks and trying to resist my hording urges but the result is well worth it!
One day I might be more organised...........
