After speaking to cold caller Simon Carter a couple of times he offered up the investment as stated.
He then sent me the investment by email and I said wanted a paper version which he sent.
He phoned again and asked if I had any questions and I said concerned about risk to capital and guaranteed return.
I was suspicious about what he was saying but said nothing to Simon and proceeded to do a little background check myself.
I googled Deutsche bank and it came up with a telephone number 0333 014 3108.
I phoned that number and they said something along the lines of we used to work with deutsche bank.
The number you need is 0207 545 8000.
It was not straightforward and there was hold a minute and I need to ask someone before got the 8000 number.
Quite convincing.
I then phoned that number and it was a switchboard situation who were looking for a Simon Carter allegedly.
They even mentioned they had 2 Simon Carters , one of whom worked in such a such division and another who worked in another.
They transferred the call and got an answerphone.
I left a message and Simon Carter phoned me 10 minutes later.
This made me think Simon Carter was a bona fide representative of deutsche but still had my niggles about everything.
I then got another letter from deutsche indicating guaranteed return and no risk to capital.
Simon phoned again and I indicated hadn't read documents and he latterly said must be sorted by Tues(tomorrow) and I decided to post on here.0 -

One thing scammers do is tell you to call a number you know is OK. So a scammer might phone saying they are from your bank. Then they say if you want to check call your bank at the number you know (e.g. from a statement).
You then hang up. Call the number you know is OK and they give you comfort everything is OK.
The "trick" is when you hang up the scammer on the other end doesn't - they play a recording down the line that sounds like they have hung up. Then when you pick up the phone everything is coming from the scammer - they play a dial tone, then a ring tone, then an associate will come on the line pretending to be the bank (while playing a recording of call centre sounds in the background etc), then the associate tells you the scammer was genuine.
I hope this makes sense. I suspect this may be what happened in your case.
Edit:
Another possibility is you have left a message with a genuine person at DB called Simon Carter. But they were not the one who called you back. The scammer may somehow know the genuine Simon Carter is unlikely to call you back or if the scammer did not know you were going to do your own research he may just have got lucky that the genuine person did not call you back.0 -
I do think that this is almost certainly a scam.
What I would like to do is let the fraud squad deal with it.
At the moment the scammer has me as a potential touch and whether the fraud squad can use that to flush out the culprit I don't know.
Went to fill the in the fraud squad form but unfortunately it seemed to be aimed at people who had been scammed rather than potentially scammed.0 -

I can't help with your question.
However, if you don't manage to get help from the police or other authority, would you be able to record them when they call you? (By the way it is perfectly legal to record your own telephone call without telling the other party.)0
