Follow the guidance in my last post on this thread.
  • The Claims Team aka Thomson legal: I believe for the first time in my life that I have been scammed by a company, after paying an upfront fee of £499.99 and told the PPI checks wouldn't take long 1-2 months maximum but 6 months later after reading everybody else's experiences with this company I am absolutely gutted about being so naïve and paying the upfront money with my credit card. I have emailed this company but not received a reply. I know I'm out of pocket £499.99 so PLEASE DONT MAKE THE SAME MISTAKE as I did

    See here.

Note that it says, "Thomson Legal Limited is being investigated by the Claims Management Regulator under Regulation 35 of the Compensation (Claims Management Services) Regulations 2006."

    This is essentially unprofessional conduct.

If you have been conned out of an up front fee send a formal complaint to support@thomsonlegal.uk.com with a copy to consumer@claimsregulation.gov.uk

If you have not had a satisfactory response within 8 weeks, go to the Legal Ombudsman.

I just stupidly fell for this too..started off I was just entertaining them for the hell of it as I was bored..went through a load of rubbish with one person, then as my claim was 'a very good one valued at £6500-9000' I was reffered to a 'manager' for even more information etc.
Well I know full well ive never paid anything they are meant to be claiming for, let alone that much money, but all their talk of how its no risk to me and wont be left out of pocket etc made me think oh why not, just let them waste their time..
It didnt click for some reason when they asked for all my credit card details etc for the fee of what I thought was £4.99, and im asked to digitally sign the agreements on the phone without getting chance to read them (and notice this fee is £499 which id have to pay off a bit each month in direct debits, despite their insistance not have to pay it off!) and wasnt able to look any reviews up or anything besides the details they tell me to look up on the government website!

After getting off the phone, I was able to read things more, and do a search on them and came across this thread! Have now called my credit card company and said ive lost my card, and that I didnt know about this claimteam charge that had been put through a few mins previously, which they've cancelled and said they'd investigate.

What do I need to do from here, or can I just call them and say sorry not interested/someone pretended they were me? I know there is that 14 day cooling off period. They also technically cant guarentee they were speaking to me, as the details they were given are easily known by anyone who knows me (name, address, date of birth, access to the pc and my email which anyone could have set up etc) besides my credit card info, which has now been cancelled, and could use my phone.

I should have twigged and cancelled the whole thing when they wanted my card details to charge this payment too!

You should not tell your credit card company that your card has been stolen if it has not or you too could be found to have committed fraud.

However, you can ask a credit or debit card provider to do a chargeback. This is preferable to using section 75 of the Consumer Credit Act 1974 as it prevents the card provider ending up out of pocket - and on this issue at least it is not their fault.

In addition, section 75 will only work for credit cards, not debit cards.

You should still complain to the business and if necessary to the Legal Ombudsman, though.
  • They dont want to be contacted easy at all do they!!
Tried cancelling within the 14 day policy..everything I had said could cancel by email, but when I did, they said to do that I had to phone a premium rate number, or log into some account for me, which is saying I dont exist..
I dont know where the form I had for posting has gone either..

Any ideas/suggestions? They no longer have valid credit card details from me at least, but how can I get in touch with them to cancel this scam? I cannot call as I am in work during their opening hours.
  • Has anyone got an answer for this. Like others I paid Verus Associates via TMG Brokers £499 in October to reclaim PPI. I was then emailed saying that Thomson Legal had taken over the case, low and behold as I expected no PPI on anything and now the case is closed off and Verus are no longer trading. Thomson Legal are refusing to refund my initial £499. Where do I go from here, I've tried emailing TMG Direct and await there response.
