    Morning all!

    Hope you all had a good weekend!

    Other than a bit of food shopping (although not necessarily all essentials) I didn't spend any money over the weekend and in fact made £60 by helping out at kids parties despite feeling poorly and wanting to hide in my bed!

    However I did get a letter saying that our water DD is going up. Have had a chat with OH about watching water consumption, but are there any steps that you guys do to limit your water usage?

    Today I have/will:-
    * Check banks
    * Do washing up
    * Put stock from beef joint into freezer tray to keep as stock cubes
    * Take lunch to work
    * Make doctors appointment (yes I can see your throat is very sore and your glands are up - take paracetamol!)
    * Charge phone in work
    * Go to the bank at lunch
    * Write shopping list
    * Dinner from stores
    * Shop to list using £5 off £40 shop in Lidl
    * Sort out utility room as new washing machine being delivered tomorrow (which is apparently A*** rated and uses less water so that should help water usage slightly)
    * Sort out clothes

    That's everything I can think of for now. Hope you all have a good day.

    For anyone who is poorly - the doctor this morning told me that lemsip/beechams etc are a waste of money and you are better off just taking paracetamol. Apparently some don't even have a full adults dose of paracetamol in them so actually are less effective than just taking tablets. Sorry if everyone was already aware of this but I'd never really thought of it that way!

  • Twiggy re water consumption. Right now where we live we share the water supply so we have to pay a fixed amount rather than it being monitored so I'm not really that bothered by it. But in previous houses/flats the things I did was:

    * fit a water thingy in the toilet cistern - you can get/buy these but also 1/2 a brick in there will do just as good a job
    * we only took 1 bath a week and showers the rest of the time - timed! Shared bath water as well - either together or one after the other
    * use 1 bucket of water when cleaning the kitchen - so hot soapy water wiped all kitchen sides cupboards then used this water to wash the floor
    * usual don't leave taps running
    * peel veg in a bucket of water rather than under running water
    * when running water hot to wash up collect water to water plants
    * I have 4 water butts for the garden

    Doing all of these things reduced our consumption & bill considerably

    I make honey, fresh ginger and lemon tea then dissolve two paracetomol in it - a lot cheaper than Lemsip and does the same job (and tastes nicer)

  • Hi Twiggy
    Sorry to hear about your water bills but do check out how much you owe and how much they want to put it up. Last time my water bill came I owed 89 pence over the six month period and they wanted to increase my bill by six pounds per month! I rang them up and they agreed to increase it by 50 pence a month.
    As far as saving water goes I read a tip on here about always having a pee before you leave work. The other important one is to harvest as much rain water as you can if you have a garden. I have six water butts and didn't need to use tap water all through this summer.
    Good luck

  • Need objective opinions! The plasterer broke my door on Friday and it can't be repaired and to be honest I don't want a broken door! (he didn't even tell us I only found out as I was tidying up!) He said the work was going to take 2 days and he would charge us £250. I have said I'm going to hold back £50 to get a new door. This has not gone down well. Would you guys do the same?
