Giving advent calendars to trick or treaters?

I was thinking of giving advent calendars to trick or treaters this year

Flicking through the TV channels earlier, home alone was on which is the most christmassy movie ever! It should be halloween movies on at this time of year but as its christmas movies all the kids are going to be on that christmas hype! Why not save some families money by giving their kids an advent calendar that they can save until December?

They'll have plenty of other sweets, so why not :cool:

Great idea! Just think, they may even reciprocate and give you an early Easter egg - unfortunately the chocolate kind are not in the shops yet so a normal one (thrown at your window) may just suffice!!

I'd be thrilled to bits but the cheapest costs around 99p, so unless you get very few callers it's likely to cost you a bit.

I wouldn't encourage trick or treaters. It's an Americanism we imported a few decades ago. Why oh why do we always have to copy what they do.

I think it's a lovely idea. I texted our next door neighbours last night to check their two kids (absolutely lovely and so well brought up) would be coming and if a stick of (local) seaside rock would be okay. We will be getting other treats for any random kids fully in costume.

Where we are the Police have a door sticker/poster to discourage trick or treaters. Something like this:



It can get out of hand, and properties vandalised, etc

It's a great idea, but how are you going to police the one door a day regime ?
Some might open them all day one eek !
You've got a responsibility once you embark on this regime you know....

If you get a few callers, it could work out expensive. I often buy the large bags of haribo with the single bags inside, probably the equivalent of a 10p mix

The Americans imported it from Scotland and Ireland so that's a pretty strange attitude.

I actually heard a myth years ago that in early years Scotland circa 1990 kids used to get given a ball of haggis on halloween :rotfl: that does now explain why they banned haggis in America!
