    Good morning all!

Some success on the list yesterday and now off to add more/finish the list

The decluttering bug... hmmm... it is in my system from mum. She hates keeping anything because my nan is a really bad hoarder.

I wouldn't say that we have a lot of clutter as such but sometimes I like to reassess things that were kept for a good reason that isn't as good any more. They are mostly small things that aren't in the way or things that have a definite use, but aren't being used. eg. I chucked 3 recipe books that were full of nice things but I realised I'd never used 2 of them for any cooking, and I didn't like the third because it had no pictures. :o
Other things to go include hair grips that were bent a bit and some pyjamas that are from when I was bigger (lost the weight 7 years ago!). Now it's not that I have a drawer full of perfectly fitting pjs and never binned these - I never really wear pjs, so on the odd occasion that I do wear them, oversized ones fit the bill perfectly. It was an mse decision to keep them. :rotfl:
BUT I applied some of the KonMarie ideas to it and thought that perhaps they could be replaced with one really nice pair that I would enjoy (and could be acquired for Christmas at no cost to myself).
OH is much more of a hoarder so a lot of the bits that have gone were his (he sorted them - I didn't bin his stuff!). Feels pretty good though. :)

Right - that was a bit of an essay! to the list:
    • Bit of meal planning for the week. This has slipped again and the fridge is totally full.
    • Make sense of chard and kale in fridge (tbh should make sense on the fridge in general)
    • Find a recipe to use up boxes of figs bought reduced to 3p :money:
    • Wash out on line now that the sun is out
    • Clean small bathroom
    • Hoover
    • Tidy up - ongoing
    • Dusting if time
    • Continue decluttering - ongoing. Got rid of two sarongs (why four? I don't like the beach!). Might get OH to get the big suitcase of doom down from the wardrobe!
    • Munch up the apple/blackcurrant/cherry crumble in the fridge (used up this year's soft fruit harvest!) - OH making good headway here
    • Check plants in garden
    • Rake leaves off lawn before it goes manky
    • Crochet. There are now SEVENTEEN balls of yarn on the go. Craziness! Also I received two more balls of yarn yesterday for another project :o I may be addicted. - ongoing. May post a sneaky pic
    • OH has expressed an interest in helping me make a quilted advent calender that I bought a panel for. Might look at this later.
    • Go for a walk/into town for Christmas shopping. Will make a list with OH over brekkie
Right! My crochet fingers are itching

    Have a good one all

Didn't get chance to post yesterday as I was 'working' in London and I didn't want to use my phone too much as the battery has been draining quickly recently. Must look for a cheap boost that I can use on the move as my contract is really cheap and I don't want to hike the contract just for a new phone.

Jonno - if you often leave your phone plugged in on charge while using it/battery full, you can oversaturate the battery. This happened to my phone (a Samsung). You will be able to tell (assuming you can look at your battery) as it will look kind of "blown" and slightly puffy.

In this case it's just a new battery required (mine was about £10-£15). If your phone is of the sealed up type, it might be a trip to the dealer but should still be cheaper than a new contract/phone.

  • Morning everyone. :D
On and off restless night but I stayed in bed until half past seven (new time) so feeling ok so far. Another few things for the list today, just to keep me on track:
    :) load of washing
:) big shop at Sainsbury's, including my bits of Christmas stuff to get the best value
:) downloaded extra bonus point coupons to use while I'm at Mr S
    :) tutoring
:) drop the boys at football. It's derby day and I really don't fancy Sunderland's chances. Just hope dh is up for going :o
:) get dd to her tumbling class
:) do some cooking and baking with the kids to make cheap meals and use up what's lying about in the cupboards
    :) do not stress
:) Oooh, I must also remember to cancel my free Equifax trial so that I get my cashback without paying at all.

Morning carrie thanks for starting the thread. Hope you and your oh are ok x

Quick post as really should be getting ready! Off out at 9 as have workshop to go to today. Have managed to get a concession so it's half price :)

Our neighbour is lending us his matlock so my soon to be veg patch should be cleared this weekend :j

    Things to be done today:

    * [STRIKE]update spreadsheet with spends[/STRIKE] eek I've got £50 *missing* blinking heck! It's gonna be a right headache to work out where it went! :(
    * [STRIKE]post ebay sale[/STRIKE] used a recycled postage bag ;)
    * couple of loads of washing 1 load in at the moment. It's going to be a nice day :)
    * an hour in the garden
    * [STRIKE]all meals from stores[/STRIKE]
    * dinner with be rubber chicken pasta
    * divvy up rest of chicken from carcass and freeze
    * make banana bread to use up over ripe bananas
    * reply to a MSE-er re a life coaching session
    * [STRIKE]nip to sains on way to workshop and pick up fresh bread, humus and olives[/STRIKE]
    * pay plasterer (meant to do this last night :o)

Ok think that's all I need to do. Just have 1 more repair to my greenhouse - need to go and get a replacement piece of glass and then it is finished

foxgloves & Dawn thanks for the tips re compost/manure. Foxgloves I have 1 of those compost bins, a tumbler, it shocked me you have 4 and it's not enough!

Ok have a great day everyone

Morning guys  I've been up since 6 cos no one told dgd the clocks went back either! :) I've also been quite productive too :T

Didn't get much done yesterday as had a stomach ache so wasnt up to much so need to catch up on yesterdays tasks today...

Bob the workshop was good thanks for asking. I hope you're starting to feel better now x

Foxgloves & dawn thanks for your continuing advice for a budding gardener! So helpful! There's so much to learn!

    So far I have:

    * kitchen is tidy, composting items been added to the correct bin
    * used an empty jar as a container for greenhouse fixings ;)
    * load of washing in will put on the line when finished
    * dug out 2 presents & cards & wrapping from stash & wrapped as dgd has a party to go to at lunchtime and then we are going to visit her aunt for birthday cake as it's her 15th birthday. Really impressed with these gifts. 1 is a little fishing game I got in sale last Jan down to £3 and the other is a bath fizz bar. It looks like fancy chocolate and you break a square off at a time for £4 :T Honestly just goes to show a little thought and keeping your eye out for things that will be nice can save loads!
    * spent MORE time reading about composting....
    * finalised accounts for the coming month. We actually have a £37 surplus & can pay another £100 to debt to bank of oh dm :T

As well as yesterday's tasks I need to:

    * continue with using up stocks
    * list fleabay items
    * all meals from stores
    * lo chicken pasta bake for dinner. Nice and easy ;)
    * hopefully oh will dig up garden today. Yesterday weather was bad so didn't get done

Ok that's my lot hope everyone has a lovely day x

  • Morning everyone

I got up the same time as normal too. Its been a hard frost overnight and the house is freezing - even with the heating on I am cold.

I have spent my time playing with my spreadsheets and comparing budget figures which has made me feel much better about things. I have done my November budget but I seem to have too much money spare so I am sure I have done something wrong. Going to leave if for a bit, my brain is addled now.

I need to finish off some paid stuff I did yesterday, should have finished it at the time really. Then the car needs washing and I have some lovely sweaty football kit to wash.

Oh and I need to make a very sensible shopping list so that I can call at Li*l later.

    Hello Sunday Savers,
Jonno - Thanks for suggestion about getting more compost bins from council. Unfortunately, we've had both that we're elligible for. We also wangled an extra one by asking in-laws to go & fetch it then give it to us. Thanks for thinking of us, though!
OK, well only a very few things today:
*Washed hair & let it dry naturally. Two baths, one lot of hot water, that's always a saving, too.
*Have loaded washer & set timer for overnight laundry on cheap tariff.
    *Have read energy meters.
*Couple of hours in the garden. I finished clearing a big border & planted up some of the perennials I grew from free seed earlier this year. mr f dug over a raised bed & planted the garlic.
*Pulled some of our baby turnips & leeks to go in some roast veg later.
Picked up another bucket of pears. Only eaten one today. Must do better!
    *Make tomorrow's packed lunch.
*All free leisure activities today - have written up a family history report, read 3 chapters of library book & am aiming to knit later.
I really feel I've managed to move a few things on, shift clutter, step up the Car Fund, etc, over the past 2 or 3 weeks. Would really like another good one this week, so will be aiming to make every day count.
    Enjoy your Sunday night, everyone.

2026's challenges: 1) To rebuild our Emergency Fund to at least £5k.
    2) To read 50 books (12/50) 3) The Re-Shrinking of Foxgloves 8.1kg/30kg
Remember....if you have to put it on a credit card, extend your overdraft or take out a loan to buy whatever it is, you probably can't afford it, as that's not your money, it's somebody else's!
