I had a call from my tyre shop today asking did i want to make an appointment to put my winters on, they have them in storage hence the call and i normally change to winters in the first week of november

the weather doesnt look like it is going to be really cooling down any time soon so i am not sure if i should delay until the end of november or the average temps go down to single figures

I will not be using the car much in november about 400 miles max so may just sling them next week and be done with it what do you think

It won't hurt to put them on now.

If it does turn colder, there will be a rush to fit them, and you won't get an appointment. 400 miles isn't going to hurt them.
I want to go back to The Olden Days, when every single thing that I can think of was better.....

The advice was to put them on when temperatures were regularly under about 7 degrees C. As said, there's no harm in putting them on early.

the tyres are already fitted to a set of rims that i got off E bay a couple of years ago so it is only a few minutes to check the balance and put them on

If you procrastinate for just 7 more days, it will be the first week of November, so why worry?
Fit them when it is convenient for you to go there.

They won't have gone out of balance in storage, so it's just a case of popping down there whenever and collecting them/dropping the others off. If their guys are too busy to swap 'em over, you can do it quickly on the forecourt.

I'm waiting until it's getting colder.

Winter tyres are better in the wet in my experience so I would fit them around October time when the trees starts to drop leaves.

I have got a day off in the week and have just booked it in for then

as i said i wont be doing that many miles in the next month so it is not going to hurt them to much

True. Barring accidents, the only time you need to get the wheels balanced is when the tyres are fitted, the rest of the time it simply involves going down to the fitters and getting them swapped over, 10-15min job usually.

My local will do it for a tenner for the whole lot.

a quick spin on the balance machine just to check is something that the service manager does as part of the service and they also do it for a tenner all in
