I have a Zanussi, over 10 years old and gets a lot of abuse (I regularly overload it and it gets used every day), which has never given me a bit of trouble. I would buy another when and if it gives up
  • Time for another here after 5 and bit years. Siemens 8kg needs new drum supports and being just out of warranty it's not worth it. Been pretty happy with it by and large but tempted by 9kg AEG.

Main concern is the pretty iffy reviews about AEG's customer service.

People who won't pay Miele prices don't understand, it isn't a case of it being cheaper to buy "a cheepo every few years".

With a quality machine comes quality parts. It lasts longer, it's quieter, it washes MUCH better (you don't realise this until you have one), it's economical, it's efficient and it's environmentally friendly.

I've just replaced a 17 year old Miele. The new one came with cash back, a 10 year warranty, a years free detergent (which is self administering so I don't even have to faff about with that) and it won't set fire to my house!

For quietness go with LG washing machine with direct drive I got one 4yrs ago and it has worked great no repairs needed so far.

Having had a Hotpoint for 20 years I'd say our Miele washes about as good & is about as quiet, the 10 year guarantee swayed it though.

I can guarantee I've paid less than you to replace more energy efficient models. Until you experience the "cheaper" models you have no idea how much more economical and energy efficient they are. I'm sure your 17yo Miele has serviced you perfectly, but at what cost?

In my Beko machine I can select cycles from a 20 min daily 30C refresh, right up to intensive baby wash at 90C (excellent for nappies, tea towels etc) and many more between. Each cycle is adjustable for temp & spin speed. I've never yet met a machine to equal it and be as economical in terms of initial cost (for variety of functions) but also economical in running it.

Don't get me wrong, I love Miele appliances but their longevity is a double edged sword IMO.
Sure you've got piece of mind (at a price) that it will be reliable but I doubt very much that a 15-20 year old Miele would get anywhere close to the latest (cheaper) machines when it comes to energy & water efficiency.
I've just got rid of a Hoover washer bought in 2007 for less than £300 & replaced it with a Candy A+++ efficiency rating for £249 with 5 year warranty.

    Clearly you've never owned a Miele :D

I can select 20 minute cycles, 12 minutes if I really want to….it isn't all about the choice (although I suspect even my old machine has more than your Beko) it's about quality of wash.

You can only work out the true economics if you add up the usage costs (detergent, softener, electricity and water) along with any service/repair costs. My old Miele will beat your Beko hands down……and that's what people who buy cheap don't realise. It's not about the cost up front.

By the way, my Miele hasn't died, it has gone to my neighbour and I'm sure it will give her many more years of great service.
