Merchants passing CC fees back to the purchaser????

If there is an extra charge then I weigh up whether I want to pay it or not.
At the moment I have a 4% cashback card so it's worth paying it.
If I'm not on a cashback deal then I'll usually pay by debit card or cash/cheque.
As others have said there are many benefits from using a credit card so you have to weigh it up.
Normally I'd only pay if it I have cashback to cover it.0 -

I'm sure lot's of retailers turn customers away because they do not wish to sell their goods/services........Not.Aiming to be debt free....but still off target0 -
Or you could pay in cash?!The man without a signature.0

Yes. Seems perfectly reasonable too.
They have to pay processing fees for accepting credit cards. They are offering you the cheapest possible price by not including that charge - available to buy via any other payment means. But as you chose to pay by credit card they charge that too - whats so unreasonable that you want to rant over here ?0 -
Thanks to the bank charge reclaiming, some people seem to think that all fees are now 'outrageous and should be illegal' :rolleyes:0

Or you could pay in cash?!
The holiday I've just paid for was £3000.
Apart from the fact that I booked it through a holiday company who are hundreds of miles away, I don't think carrying £3000 around the streets is a good idea (unless you have a pack of rugby players for bodyguards).
Each form of payment has it's pros and cons.
Personally I dislike carrying lots of cash around for obvious reasons.0 -

I agree.
Some people think that life should be fair.
It would be nice, but life's not like that.
There is no obligation on companies to do anything fairly (obviously they have to have to act within the law).
They can choose who they want to deal with and what they want to charge them.0 -
But can you afford to lose the business when a customer decides to shop elsewhere ?
CC transaction charges are one of the costs of doing business and are no different to rent, electricity or wages.
How many high street stores pass the charge back to the customer ? None I can think of.
There is no point doing business if you loose money on it !
Our overheads, ie electricity ,wages etc are factored into the price we charge , however we have no way of knowing which customer will want to pay by credit card before we price the job ( removals business)
High street stores probably have higher profit margins and factor in credit card charges to every item ( those of you who dont use cards are paying for those who do )
Smaller shops quite often will not let you buy anything under a certain amount if you pay by any card even debit cards0 -

if it means selling at a loss of course they would ! we have had the odd potential customers ring us and say they have had a cheaper quote elsewhere ............off you go then is the reply lol0 -

thats really more a vat scam by the retailers than anythings else. There is no VAT to pay on credit card fees, so if for example you pay 100 quid for something, then the retailer will only pay vat on 97.50 of the amount rather than the full £100.0
