Changing Broadband provider

Options
We are about to move house, which sounds like a good time to consider changing broadband provider. We currently use Orange but find that our connection is unreliable, and also much slower than advertised (at peak times it seems as slow as dial-up though it is supposed to be 8MB!) Also we have been told that it will take a minimum of 10 working days to get an Orange connection up and running to a new address.

The only thing which is deterring me is that I currently use as my only email address an orange address. If I change provider, presumably I will lose the right to use this address? Is there any way to have emails forwarded to a new address for a period, while people get used to the fact that it has changed, or would it be a question of running two subscriptions for a while until the change takes effect?

All advice on the email question would be welcome, plus any recommendations for other providers.

Thanks

I have been investigating this because I am changing from Waitrose to TalkTalk. I do not want to lose my Waitrose web address, but luckily they offer a service called "Just Mail" where for £20 a year you can keep your old email account with them.
What part of "A whop bop-a-lu a whop bam boo" don't you understand?

I believe you can keep your BT e-mail address for £1.50 per month.

I believe you can keep your BT e-mail address for £1.50 per month.

I went from BT Broadband/Yahoo service to their 'dial-up' service - and as long as you dial-up call (ie c5p) ONCE at least every 2 or 3 months (don't have my diary in front of me) your email addresses are kept alive.

It's been similar with Lineone/Tiscali where they were my ISP about 10-15 years ago and yet my email addy's still active as every 30 days I make one 5p dial-up call.

In Outlook you can 'add' a display column with the 'to' email address, so that over time you can endeavour to update anyone who's still using that old (BT) address, before potentially just abondoning it in n months time.

Pardon my asking, but wasn't Waitrose satisfactory?
I was thinking of changing from Orange to Waitrose on hearsay that they have good customer services.
Can you please advise. Many thanks.
