Frank Field's proposals for 'tweaking' tax credits cut
Comments
-
Frank Field has told the Huffington Post that cuts to Tax Credits could be stopped this week, by the tabling of a 'fatal' motion in the Lords.
Yeat again an unelected bunch of out of touch geriatric , out of touch, do gooders and political elitists will seek to prevent the elected Government from ammending tax credits rules.
Many of us , see on a daily basis people using the tax credits rules to maximise benefit entitlement and minimise their working hours. I worked nearly 60 hrs last week and the family of 7 down the road from me take their burger wagon out for 1hr a day and they are coining in the tax credits. They are supposedly a Self employed business flipping burgers for 5hrs a week and then allegedly spending 25hrs or so a week in administration and promoting their "business".. Its a joke and needs to be sorted.
Needing to work 30hrs a week (between 2 working aged adults, thats 15hrs each ) to qualify for tax credits a joke for starters. I'm 46 and I was working 45hrs a week at the age of 16. The benefit system in this country is a complete joke, we ,the UK are the joke of Europe.0 -

for tax credit purposes, there is NO group which is required to work 30 hours between them.
single parents must work minimum of 16 hours
disabled people have to work a minimum of 16 hours
a couple with children have to work 24 hours, with 1 working at least 16 hours
a childless couple or a singleton has to work 30 hours. this cannot be split between the partners in a couple. 1 of them must work at least 30 hours.
many of us don't agree with the current tax credit system, but you really do yourself no favours by not even knowing the rules regarding working hours.
the couple working 15 hours each would not get any tax credits0 -
Please let it be that you are joking! Is it a case of dealing days after days with people who have it good mean that even those with decent jobs starts to get affected and envious of the lifestyle.
It should be the other way around
Sadly this is the tax credits poverty trap. Doubtless HBO has had some years of "clients" telling him that he is wasting his life by working full time. Having now done the calculations he finds that he can work only half the time with little financial penalty (now) without thinking about what his reduced pension contributions mean for his future.
Also, should a vacancy for a Senior(?) HBO become available with say a £2K pay rise, he would probably decide that it wasn't worth applying as he would see no immediate financial benefit. Even if he did decide to apply, I suspect that management would view some of his equally qualified colleagues as more committed to their careers.
The whole tax credits system seems to encourage people to start looking at their financial position now, without thought for longer term prospects.

So increased tax credits didn't "more than make up the loss of wages". Increased tax credits made up some of the loss, and reduced expenses made up the rest. That makes more sense.0 -
It appears that the government has 'seen off a Labour motion attacking plans to cut tax credits. Labour was defeated by 317 votes to 295, a government majority of 22.'0

The real test will be the vote in the Lords on Monday. If the Govt is defeated they'll have to try to win a vote in the Commons; or - more likely - alter the proposals.
14 Tory MPs have now spoken out against. It only takes 7 to vote against for the Gov't to be defeated, as the DUP, SNP, Ind, PC, Green have all said they'd join Labour & LD MPs in opposing the WTC cuts. Please be polite to OPs and remember this is a site for Claimants and Appellants to seek redress against their bank, ex-boss or retailer. If they wanted morality or the view of the IoD or Bank they'd ask them.0 -

I thought they pulled the fatal motion so there won't be a vote on Monday?0 -
Lady Meacher withdrew her fatal motion on Tuesday night and instead announced she would table a motion calling on the government to deliver a report responding to the warning by the Institute for Fiscal Studies that 3 million families would lose £1,000 a year.......

Baroness Meacher has laid the motion on the Order Paper for Monday. It would delay the implementation until consideration is given to the IFS study. The Govt would not therefore be able to implement the WTC cuts in April 2016.Please be polite to OPs and remember this is a site for Claimants and Appellants to seek redress against their bank, ex-boss or retailer.
