Are talktalk really that bad?

I popped to asda yesterday afternoon and got talking to the talktalk rep that was outside the store. I currently have my line rental and broadband through sky and pay £27.40 a month. Talktalk offered me 18 months free broadband and I just have to pay the £17.70 line rental. I agreed and signed the contract but when I got home I looked at some reviews online and see a lot of complaints. Are they really that bad? I don't get any calls included but we rarely use the landline so that doesn't bother me. We use the broadband (just me and hubby) for surfing the Web and watching TV programmes online. Some of the reviews said connection was bad. Have I made a mistake? I should still be ok to cancel but I wanted to see other people's opinions first

Customer service is certainly dire but you may be alright if you have no problems.
If you phone Sky and say you are leaving to go to TalkTalk and tell them the deal, you are more than likely to be offered free BB and so it would just be the LR cost of £17.40pm. This would be a new 12 months contract as opposed to an 18 months contract with TalkTalk.0 -
My contract is due to end. I've tried to negotiate a better deal both on chat and on the phone. Everytime I have said I don't want an 18 month contract I've been cut off. I just have to decide where to go now. When I leave what do I do with the modem and the TV box they sent me? I told them I didn't want the box, they still sent it. Will they try to bill me for it?

Don't renew your contract, you don't need one.Forex_Fred wrote: »My contract is due to end. I've tried to negotiate a better deal both on chat and on the phone. I have been out of contract 12 months.
Have they increased your package ?
When I tried to beat the line increase a month ago, and told it was too soon, 60 days, she said that my contract expired 12 months ago;did I want to renew? I would have pay £191 when I renew my line rental next month.
I said , Not yet to a new contract, then she said I could just carry on as per norm, which I am.no increase.in my package, to present.
I will have to renew my line next month.
Is your line rental due soon, or do you pay the normal amount monthly ( not upfront) ?0 -
I don't know if it will be increased. I bet it will though. Its the essential package with £2.50 reduction they gave me last year. I was just worried that they would automatically start an 18 month contract without telling me. What about the TV box and modem?0

cannot see how they can renew your contract without permission. I haven't got one.the box etc should be yours if you see the contract through.t/cs may say different when you last signed contract, but doubt it.Forex_Fred wrote: »I don't know if it will be increased. They won't start a new contract - you will just go onto a rolling monthly contract.
However you may lose any discounts/offers that you which would only be renewed with a new contract. So your price may go up.0 -

I'm tempted to not renew my line rental upfront, and just let it run, and go on a rolling contract, and see what happens. Paying line upfront only saves £20 now.See if they put my package price up?0 -
I will do that for now. I must admit they have been good, apart from when I have to call them. If they did a 12 month contract I would happily renew. My road will have BT fibre in December (strange TT already have fibre here) and if the recent £10.00 unlimited offer comes up again I will go for that.0

I have had no trouble with them in years.Forex_Fred wrote: »I will do that for now. I must admit they have been good, apart from when I have to call them. but, doesn't mean it will stay that way.
let them contact you with an offer, or see if they increase your package.18 month contracts are a form of entrapment in my opinion.that's why they do them:mad:0
