Are talktalk really that bad?

  • I left BT for talk talk in August. Went live with talk talk fibre on the 27th August without any problems.

Very happy with service and hoping to stay with talk talk for many years to come.

I think most of the problems people have with their broadband is down to BT Openreach. This can happen with any provider, as they all have to go through BT Open reach.

My advice, sign up for Talk talk.

Speed or quality issues can be with LLU providers (TT, Zky, EE etc) not always the BT Openreach line, LLU providers who lease a line sometimes are the hardest to get a BT Openreach engineer out due to cost.
SO... now England its the Scots turn to say dont leave the UK, stay in Europe with us in the UK, dont let the tories fool you like they did us with empty lies... You will be leaving the UK aswell as Europe ;)

I used to be with Talktalk, was bombarded with so many "we're the cheapest possible" emails and junk mail letters (yup, still got 'em!) that I was too worried about sky-high prices to move.

So when I did move I was suprized to find that I was paying less AND the service was more reliable. On top of this, I was not left frustrated by heavily accented call center staff asking me for everything but my blood type when I called to log a complaint which would take anything up to a month to get resolved (too many of these to count!)

When I had faults with all the other suppliers they all would use BT OpenReach but they'd get far faster responses from the BT-OpenReach people; days not weeks. I also had the benefit of not having someone try to sell me something more every time I called- sometimes at the most irrelevant times and the most irrelevant things "yes but I don't you don't have a TV Mrs X,Y,Z" (actually it's Miss but they don't seem to hear corrections) "but if you get one then you will have this package to use"...(yes but if you can't sort out a decent connection then there's no point in anything your selling me!)

I used to work in a call center, I know how hard it is being a call center member of staff but after a few years (yes I was that daft) of getting nowhere with often incompetent staff (eg reports of no connection not being taken, line tests needing to be done on every call center member I was passed on to...I could go on) after Talktalk, I have two aims when looking for a new BB company or mobile phone company; first that they offer 24 hour technical phone lines to log and resolve faults 24 hours a day and also that I can understand what they are saying and that it makes sense!
I will try everything I can to avoid call center staff in heavily accented call centers. I don't have an issue with a particular country; I just need to be able to understand them and I need them to be able to understand what I am saying and what I need.

Having been through what I went through with Talktalk, it will be a very bad day when I can't find any other company to shift to when I next move. OP, good luck, I hope for your sake that Talktalk have come on leaps and bounds in the past 4 years since I dropped them.

I had cause to phone TT about my line, playing up a few yrs ago, and they sent BT openreach out, very quickly, after a few tests at main bt box inside my house.
    when engineer came.
He said a fault within my house line, needs renewing, and as my main phone box is 25 yards from cable entry to the house, he would have to run it outside the house,( unsightly)
I said, what if you drill , and insert the new cable into my loft , I then route it through my loft( they cannot, not insured) and I push it down the inside wall to terminal box?
We agreed. I did most of the work, 10 minutes up the loft.
He was happy.I was happy. He even put a free BT box with separate inernet connector inside.I now know exactly where my line is/goes.
    Sorted.
    No probs since.
    speak as you find.
15 years of relatively good service.:)
I must admit, when it was aol, it was easier to use the phone to them for techie advice, than TT.always polite and helpful.
    one phone call was like phileas fogg;
india, first, who, transferredme to south africa, who then transferred me to the philipines:-)

I've been with talk talk for a couple of years and had no problems at all.

Line has been very stable and the router has good reach.

I had to call them at the end of the last contract to haggle and it went fine.

I'll need to do it again shortly and will seek to get them to match Sky's current new joiners deal or else I'll be off.

Never sign up with a street rep, you are simply giving the commission away which you could keep for yourself via a cashback site or direct online. TT are fine until you get a billing or tech issue, then you will find out why they are so cheap.
Since Sky to TT is presumably an LLU to LLU transfer, I wouldn't rely on keeping your existing number, if that is important to you.
No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)

I wouldn't worry too much about TT's long contract's they hike their prices so often you're never far off a get out of jail free card!

    BT.
Left 02, excellent service then they shut it down and transferred me to Sky.
Sky charged me for not owning a TV so I moved to PlusNet.
PlusNet cut their 24 hour 7 day week service so I moved to BT.
BT at the moment are appearing to be pretty incompetent. I am not sure if I am in the frying pan or the fire...
