EON Meter reads why bother emailing me?

I received an email from EON telling me theres no need to enter my meter readings this month as someone will be taken a read themselves,

so I thought ok no problem, so I didn't bother taking one this month

low and behold my bill comes in today, wait for it......Estimated !!

I mean why bother sending me an email stating theres no need for me to take a reading ??? when you end up estimating my bill??

oh it gets better, I cant even enter my true meter reading now online as its shaded out, yup you guessed it, with the Estimated readings!

i will try in the morning if not I guess I shall have to waste my time ringing and giving them over the phone..

EON if you send someone an email stating something at least be true to your word and not lie about it.

rant over.

This happens to me all the time, they have not got it right yet!.
When you go to put your reading in, do you put it in the second set of boxes?.
When you go to put your reading in, on the right there is a box that says submit reading, this takes you to both boxes with the current readings and then you put the new ones underneath.
Hope you understand what I mean :(

Could it simply be that a meter reader did attempt to call to read the meter, but was unable to access your meter?

I've been with EON since last December -I've had 3 such emails but haven't seen ANY meter readers ! I've actually put my own readings in anyway every month.
As to footyguy's point -my meters are in an external box so no problem with access:):)

Meter readers can turn up much later after the email, as much as two weeks later , so give them a chance. External boxes will definitely get read as Eon operate a bonus scheme based on getting as many reads as possible .Eon read meters usually at 6 monthly intervals. Monthly readings by occupiers are not really needed unless you are on one those "energy smart " type bills which direct debit an exact amount every month according to your usage.

Morning NittyGritty and sorry we've upset you. To be honest, I don't know why we haven't read your meter. I'm assuming access is okay and wouldn't stop our meter reader from seeing the meter? Mind you, even if they couldn't see the meter, they should've left a card to let you know.

Certainly not aware of any particular problems. As sacsquacco says, we're actively trying to take as many readings as possible using various methods including visits. Could be a local difficulty that meant a planned visit didn't go ahead? I'm speculating, though. If you drop an email to the address in my Profile with your details and readings, I'll be happy to sort this. I'll also log it as a complaint.

Sacsquacco's also right about them turning up quite a time after the email but, as you've received the bill, I wouldn't expect the visit to go ahead now. Sorry again for the inconvenience NittyGritty. Hope my offer saves you a phone call.

    Morning amersall

Your instructions are spot on. Sorry, but I don't understand what's not right. Are you having difficulties entering your readings online? If you let me know what you're struggling with, I'll do my best to help.

  • I've often received those emails as well. Telling me that a meter reader will be calling, and then getting an estimated bill.

And my meter is in a standard meter cupboard by the front door, so unless he forgets his key, the reader can get access.

Eon do need to sort out this particular anomaly.

...And my meter is in a standard meter cupboard by the front door, so unless he forgets his key, the reader can get access.

Can I just say, both our gas & electricity meter are accessible from outside, and both are in their own typical meter meter cabinet.

However I remember a few months back, our supplier (who was our dual fuel supplier at the time) wrote to us saying they needed us to contact them urgently regarding them reading our electricity meter.

When I called them, they said they needed to read our electricity meter as part of the requirement to read them at least every 2 years. They said the gas was fine, as they had read that a week or so earlier, but needed the electricity meter to be read, and then they would provide us with our quarterly bill.

    I said "Fine"

They asked "When can we come?"

    I said "Anytime you like"

They said, "But you need to be there when we call"

    I asked "Why"

They said "Well, someone will need to allow our meter reader access to your home to read the electricity meter. As we said, we called a week or 2 earlier and recorded the gas meter reading - that's presumably accessible from outdoors"

I said "Yes, as is the electricity meter"

They said "Oh, is it? Where is the electricity meter now"

I told them "It's in the same place as it's always been, the place where you have read it numerous times previously, the same place on our house as all the other similar style houses in our street."

    They asked "But where exactly?"

I said "It's in the meter cupboard directly to the right of the front door. If you stand at the front door, you cannot miss it. Actually you have to walk past it to get to the gas meter cupboard that is around the corner ... and your meter reader found that!"

They said "So your electricity meter is accessible from outside?"

    I said "Yes"

They asked "Is it behind a gate or something, as we are mot permitted to open them, in which case you, or someone else, will need to be there to open it and grant our meter reader access"

I explained "Well there is a gate that borders the road/pavement, and your meter reader will need to open that to walk up our front pathway to get to our front door... just like the postman does almost everyday (and any other visitor) without trouble. I'm sure your meter reader can do that too. Presumably he actually did that when he came and read the gas meter? In any event, he would need to do that to reach the front door if he did need some help accessing the meter (which he won't need)"

They said "Oh, in that case we'll ask the meter reader to attend again. If he does need to be granted any access, he'll knock and if no answer, will leave a card saying he called"

I never heard any more until the quarterly bill arrived a couple of weeks later ... both gas & electricity had Actual meter readings shown.

My supplier at the time was not Eon, but I don't think it was the supplier's fault anyway, but rather just a dozy meter reader.

You appear to have posted this as I was writing my previous response.

As you will now see, it's amazing what some meter readers fail to see. :)
