EON Meter reads why bother emailing me?

  • Morning amersall

Your instructions are spot on. Sorry, but I don't understand what's not right. Are you having difficulties entering your readings online? If you let me know what you're struggling with, I'll do my best to help.

all sorted now I guess it was too soon to enter new readings after my bill came through yesterday with the estimated readings being used,

all updated online now, £60 n a bit of change saved by giving my true meter read, than leaving the estimated readings on.

lesson learned I think, ignore any emails next time and give readings myself
  • Morning NittyGritty and sorry we've upset you. To be honest, I don't know why we haven't read your meter. I'm assuming access is okay and wouldn't stop our meter reader from seeing the meter? Mind you, even if they couldn't see the meter, they should've left a card to let you know.

Certainly not aware of any particular problems. As sacsquacco says, we're actively trying to take as many readings as possible using various methods including visits. Could be a local difficulty that meant a planned visit didn't go ahead? I'm speculating, though. If you drop an email to the address in my Profile with your details and readings, I'll be happy to sort this. I'll also log it as a complaint.

Sacsquacco's also right about them turning up quite a time after the email but, as you've received the bill, I wouldn't expect the visit to go ahead now. Sorry again for the inconvenience NittyGritty. Hope my offer saves you a phone call.

I've been with EON since last December -I've had 3 such emails but haven't seen ANY meter readers ! I've actually put my own readings in anyway every month.
As to footyguy's point -my meters are in an external box so no problem with access:):)

    Morning brewerdave

In the majority of regions, we now try to read meters about every 6 months. Although this is a lot less where one of our Smart Meters are fitted. In these cases, it'll be once every 2 years.

For online customers, we'll email to let them know if a meter reader is due to call. Must say, I'm surprised you've had 3 emails about a visit since last December. I would have thought a maximum of two but it depends on the reading cycle so could be wrong. We will, though, email online customers once their account goes into the 'billing window' (for quarterly customers, this is open 14 days either side if the bill date).

You do right to pop readings in each month. This increases the accuracy of the account. As your meters are outside, it may be the reader has called without being spotted. Where we receive a customer's reading and one from a meter reader, the first one within the window will be used for billing.

The more readings we have the better so please keep on sending them brewerdave. If it helps, you can now send them through our free smartphone app. This can be downloaded through our website.

Glad this bit's sorted NittyGritty. You're right, you wouldn't be able to enter readings online so close to a bill. It's usually okay 24-48 hours later.

Never worry about estimated bills. We're always happy to rebill to your readings. Also, even if we do visit, we're still happy to take your readings. The more actual readings on accounts the better.

Don't know if I've mentioned this before but you can always raise your own bills through the 'Real Time Billing' tool on our website. Just pop in the readings and you'll have the option of seeing what balance would result or actually requesting a bill.

Thanks for letting me know NittyGritty.

Me again NittyGritty. Thought I'd keep this bit separate in case others have a particular interest in this rebate.

The Government Electricity Rebate (GER) is part of a package of measures to help reduce domestic energy bills. The savings come from reducing the costs of government policies. These savings will be passed on to you. We'll pass on £12 to any electricity customer who was with us on 11 October 15. We aim to have this done by the end of November 15. This is the second part of the rebate following on from the initial £12 paid to electricity customers in Autumn 14.

Did your switch to us complete on or before 11 October 15? If it did, we'll pay you the £12. It'll be added to your account before the end of November 15. If we're due to make the payment but it's not on your latest bill, it'll be on the next scheduled bill. You'll also be able to see it online by going to 'Billing & Payments' and then selecting 'See full payment history.'

If your supply switched after 11 October 15, you'll need to ask the previous supplier about the payment.

Hope this helps NittyGritty. Let me know if you need any more details as happy to help. Check out our website, too. There's lots of information about the GER including quite a few FAQs. Whilst there, have a look at the 'Saving Energy' pages. Might be able to knock some more off your bills.

I'd say it's because you've already had the paperless billing discount accounted for on the amount that the second bill starts at. The 1p relates to the extra couple of days that the new bill includes.

At least that my initial interpretation.

Also, the first bill shows the credit for the government rebate.

    Hi NittyGritty

We've given you the £12 GER discount. It's on the estimated bill as '£12.00 CR Government Electricity Rebate on 13 Oct 15.'

The paperless billing discount is £5 per fuel per year. This is paid on a pro rata basis throughout a 12 month period. This has been paid on the estimated bill for the period the bill covers which is about 3 months. We haven't taken this away. On the second bill, covering about a day, we've given a further discount for this time of a penny.

    Hope this explains.
