Ok..... Fly Wednesday 10th. Back on 14th (land 15th) - Delta £403 Direct (Delta.com)
Indirect flights, £323 with KLM (klm.com)
Hotels..
ok.. Hotels are tricky... i have no budget, so i don't know what to suggest]
Pennsylvania Hotel is available, at a total cost of - £1000 for the stay... there is bound to be cheaper around. just search the usual culprits of webites
(expedia, opodo, hotels.com etc!)
Pennsylvania Hotel is on 7th Avenue, opposite Maddison Square Gardens, short stroll to Times Square/Central Park and Empire State Building/5th Avenue (stayed there with my sisters in 2006) cost £600 for 5 nights for the room (not each) Basic hotel but great location, Central Station across the road, Maceys0 -

yup.. been discussed many times.. really one of the worst hotels in NYC, which is why it has availability so close to when the OP wants to go...0 -
We went to NY in August and my OH and dd had booked this tour and have to say I was absolutely dreading it. However, and I never thought I would say this, but it was money well spent as we saw areas of NY which we would not have managed to get to see otherwise. Stopped off in Greenwich Village, Meatpacking District and loads of other areas other than the usual tourist bits. The tour cost about £18 each and lasted about 3 hours but you get a cocktail and a magnolia cupcake chucked in for that. To my surprise I was not the only male on the coach either! Have to say though that the tour guide was a bit "intense" - I think she really thought she was living the TV series.
The company we used was On Location Tours and we booked online before we went. You just print of your e-ticket and the tour met up outside the Plaza Hotel (by the Apple store) which was very easy to find.
If you do go I am sure you will enjoy it.
Thanks for that. My OH loves SATC (dragged me to the cinema to see it recently) so this maybe a nice suprise if I book this in advance...Nice to save.0 -

Thanks v much for that. I will check them out. I know exactly where the Apple Store/Plaza hotel is and that isn't far from where we are staying, perfect!0 -

Which is why you suggested it  wouldn't say it's one of the worst hotel in NYC mind you. It was basic, yes, however it was clean, comfortable, all you would want from a hotel, (even an ironing board & iron) after all, you're not spending all your time thereThe reason it has availability is probably because it has 1700 rooms. IMO it's fine for a 3-5 night stay, you are sight seeing not hotel nit picking. If you want 5* you'll have to pay for it.

I'm after dirt cheap places to stay
I'm staying in an apartment, but have to be out by a certain date and need somewhere to crash for a few nights.
Has anyone stayed at either the Gershwin, or Bowery's Whitehouse Hotel? A friend of mine is booked into the latter and I'm wondering whether that would be a good choice.
When I stayed in NYC a few years ago, I stayed at Hostel International on the Upper West Side. It was about £8 a night, including breakfast. Yes, it was bunk beds in a shared room, but it was fine.0 -

why did i suggest it..i searched hotelconxions which is the site i search for my hotel, and found that it was the only reasonable thing that was around. Also, the OP didn't give any idea of budget or location requirements, and basically wanted to fly next week. Why should i search for everything, i recommended the OP find something on the ususal culprits of websites, after finding, what i think is a competitive price for a flight? I'm not going on holiday next week, but i help as much as i can with the information given, until i feel i've done enough work... I have never yet paid for a 5* hotel in NYC, and probably never will. have you ever read my reviews/comments/recommendations for a hotel..
obviously not..
1700 rooms makes it for a very impersonal hotel, and if there are any issues, there are probably about 100 people in front of you in the queue to get sorted.
It is at one of the busiest intersections in Manhattan, where, to be brutally honest, there really isn't anywhere nice to eat, unless you call subway, mcdonalds, sbarro, and any other fast food restaurant nice. It isn't just the cost and what you get in your room that i find important, location, and facilities nearby, is also really important....
and no, it isn't the worst, it is 271 out of 360 new york hotels..
personally.. i'm going to keep recommending the cosmopolitan, and keep staying there myself..

Good for you. Other people have an opinion. If you want to be in the heart of it then I would say that the Pennsylvennia Hotel is in a great locationHave you stayed there yourself? I am speaking from personal experience, as are you regarding the Cosmopolitan, each to their own. As for reading your reviews/comments/recommondations for a hotel, why should I
I have an opinion and given the reasons in my posts. I didn't know that I had to get past you to post a comment.

Hi everyone, i have read with care all the hotel recomendations and ones to avoid on here but as yet havnt come across anyone who has stayed in a B & B, does anyone recommend this option, there are a couple on trip advisor which have good reviews and 1 of them is really close to Central Park and the subway and neither of them are expensive, i just like the idea of a more personal atmosphere, am i alone here.DFW red and green memberDoing my best to lose weight and save money0
