    I've been Money Tipped!
    Hi All,

Looking to go to New York and would like some advice on prices/accomodation etc, here are some details:

*were a 24 and 27 yr old couple
*looking to visit for a wk 22-29th Nov (dates variable by 1/2 days)
*would like to stay in the centre of Manhattan, as purpose of visit is mainly shopping/sightseeing

I would like advice on the following:

    *book seperately online/as package?
*book as early as poss/last min?
*which airport is best to fly into?
*hotels which are nice but not over priced?

Not sure how much we should expect to pay for a week for flights/hotel at this time of yr so any ideas would greatly help, thanks :)

ps we can fly from Liverpool, Manchester, Leeds Airports

    Suzanne

Before you get any very abrupt replies, can I suggest you look at the links in the very first page of this looooong thread, because there you will find the kind of information you need to enable you to make some decisions.

The Travel Resource Bar will also give you lots of useful pointers.

Then if you are left with any very specific questions (like whether 5 people and their suitcases will fit into a taxi! which I guess is not one you're going to want to ask) it will be easier for those in the know to give answers.

    Hi,

I note a lot of people seem to be going to NYC for 3-4 days. We were looking at a week - will this be too long or does it mean we can do the same stuff but at a more leisurely speed?

Would people want to go for a week or is 3-4 day enough?

    Thanks

Icy77 - No worries for going for a week. I've been on a number of occasions and done both the week-end type break and the longer week one. It will mean you can take your time over things without trying to cram it all in to a few days. Most people miss out on the really great museums etc that there are in New York because they want to do the main sightseeing and shopping. The extra days will mean you can utilise your time better.

Decide what you want to do and see and then plan a rough itinerary but know that you can move things around to suit how you feel when you wake up in the morning - just don't take it too leisurely!

Depends if you can afford to stay longer I suppose, well thats the reason I have only been for 3 days. I have been twice, both times for 3 days, PLENTY of time to see Manhatten and at a leisurely speed, if you get organised, plenty of tips on this thread of where to go, and in what order etc...but I would have definitely gone for longer if we could have afforded it, I adore the place, and now that I have seen the main sights, there is so much more I want to do and explore. :D

Edit - And as Savvy said, for me, depends on the weather. First time I went, it was freezing so 3 days was plenty for us but this year, I went end of May, lovely weather, just right, so would have loved to have stayed longer.

So, markymoo, since I now defer to your expertise in all things NY, for five adults plus luggage from JFK, is it worth waiting for a minivan taxi, or getting two taxis, or booking a Carmel car?

I quite fancy the limo ride just once in my life ...

Oh, and if it's Carmel cars, will they suggest what time they should come and pick us up to give us time to clear immigration? 'Cos I have no idea ...

If you're gonna do a limo.. do it from NYC to the airport.. i think it is nicer that way..

now.. carmel, they will easily be able to accommodate you, if you do book with them, you give them details on when your plane is landing... etc etc. however, as they pick up kerbside, what you need to do is call them, as soon as you have cleared immigration, customs, and have your luggage.

they will tell you what car number to look out for, the driver will drive down the pick up bit, and hold out the number out of his window, then you just wave him down!

    simple really..

bless you marky ... but NYC to the airport won't work because we have hired a car which needs to be returned to the airport. Oh yes it will ... (engage brain!) - we fly out Sunday  but I've booked the car from Wednesday to our return date. But we can get the limo to pick the car up, can't we!

May still get it from airport to hotel. Will discuss with DH. Want it simple ... Hope I won't be ready to 'lose' any of the boys on our first day!

Icey, we're only doing 3 days because I don't think I'll cope with more than that in the heat. At a different time of year, I might have been tempted to stay for longer.

    Hi all,

Has anyone stayed at the Skyline in Hell's Kitchen? We're considering it for November; reviews are generally good but I always defer to the guys on MSE!

    Thanks x

    Hello.

Two of us going to the States between 1st and 12th of September. Flying to SF in between which is all sorted.

Just booking flights LHR to JFK . They were £333 on Virgin earlier but the price has now jumped to £491. I can find similar priced deals with Continental etc. but I would rather fly with VA if possible. Good past experience.

Is there any chance the prices will drop back down? It seems to be all the flights which have gone up so it's not just like this one flight has filled up?

So should I book now or wait to see if prices go down? Will they keep going up?

    Thanks.
