We must be incredibly lucky then as we live in a rural area but have a decent broadband service. Just tested it and got a download speed of 72.67Mbps, upload speed of 19.99Mbps and ping of just 12ms :D

On the downside we don't have much of a public bus service. Just 5 buses a day Mon-Sat with no evening (after 5:30pm) or Sunday service.

ETA: you can check here whether your area is enabled for super fast broadband... http://www.superfast-openreach.co.uk/rural-broadband/

My Internet speed is pretty pathetic too:

However, it's okay for YouTube, SD iPlayer, web surfing, etc.

According to Openreach faster broadband is its way to the village. For the past few months it's been telling me:
    Status: Coming soon

Your area will be enabled within the next six months and we'll provide more details nearer the time. At the moment you can't order Superfast Fibre.

I haven't seen any Openreach activity around here, so I think they're being a bit optimistic.

It requires government funding so will take time for fibre in such locations but it'll be there soon(tm)

You are better off relying on this checker to tell you when FTTC/fibre becomes available in your area.

That doesn't seem very useful. It's telling me that FTTC is available when I know my cabinet hasn't been upgraded for fibre yet.

EDIT : Well between last week and this week it appears that my cabinet is now enabled even though the cabinet shows no signs of fibre.
