  • I've only had experience with Uber Manila (Philippines) and it's great! You always know that you'll arrive safe and sound. And btw, you can track and stalk your taxi using their in-app google maps. It's awesome.

I see a Mr McCausland from fone a cab pointed out there will be no extra taxi drivers .
The law is being changed so every taxi has to have a meter.A smart phone cant be used as a meter, uber need to rethink this.

In London at least, PHVs aren't allowed to have a meter due to historic lobbying by black cabs.

We now use Addison Lee in London and Blacklane elsewhere, as in many cities (the UK is an exception) Uber aren't licensed at all, and even in London the standard of some of the vehicles/drivers is far below expected.

I also believe that it's only fair the drivers get a fair deal, which at sub-£1/mile after Uber's (25ish%) commission isn't the case IMO.

It's a shame, as I actively recommended drivers to work for them at £1.75/mi and 20% commission, but that's life.

  • Interesting, especially as fonacab have been using phones as meters for a few months now..

  • Taxi apps are a nightmare - too many stupid user names, passwords and phone numbers to remember. I will be using my phone as usual from home and if I'm out in the street I'll go to a depot or black taxi rank like I have always done.

You can use your Facebook. It's just 1 click and add your debit/credit card and you're good to go. Trust me, it's so handy! You can see how many ubers are available in your area as well.
  • Is it just confined to Belfast ?

There were late night buses for a while but nobody used them because you had to have bought tickets in advance and also it was difficult to find out where they went from or know if you had missed them.

Nobody used them? they were packed when i got them
