Uber taxi?

Does anyone know when (or if) Uber taxis are launching in Belfast? Just spotted a £3 groupon deal for £15 credit. It will be great not to be stranded in town with the local cabs not answering their phones.

  • They advertised for management staff earlier this year and indicated they were looking to obtain licenses but there's no sign of a launch yet.

Given the big local firms already have apps there's already no reason to use the phone and other than the 1am pub closing time its usually not difficult to get a taxi in greater Belfast.

I could be wrong as I have no experience with Uber - but it’s precisely this time that I am hoping Uber will shine.
Lack of access to taxis put me off going into town for work functions etc. From personal experience the two current big players don’t let you book after midnight on their app. No firm will accept a pre-booking. I’ve never managed to get phone and get a taxi at 1am, and black taxis are few and far between (and for my personal safety I don’t fancy dandering around the city in the hope of the rare chance to catch one)

One more reason why our Licensing laws need to be updated - everyone can't get home safely if they're all spat out onto the street at 1am.

There were late night buses for a while but nobody used them because you had to have bought tickets in advance and also it was difficult to find out where they went from or know if you had missed them.

My experience of late night buses was terrible if your SOBER!

Drunken revellers made it most unpleasant!

Yep, the buses only worked for the brave, and suffered the same problem, everyone got kicked out at the same time, everyone wanted to get onto one bus. I was on one a few times and would share ballyblack's experience. I think they were actually popular.

I'll never use Uber again after my virginal experience in Manchester. I read online that they were doing an offer of first taxi after registering was free up to £20. A week later my credit card was charged with my £15 fare.

I complained to them and was told i needed to input a code when booking the fare. I explained i was new to Uber and didnt know my way around the app or that i had to have a code.

    They practically said "Tough"...

Nah. My local taxi company will get my money from now on.

Is that not a bit like seeing a 20% off voucher code for tescos in your local paper, buying stuff in tescos without the voucher code, then complaining subsequently that you paid full price?

Was it one like this - that says "use promo code at checkout"?

    Or this on voucher codes?

Or a code like this offer?
