It's the usual argument. There are too many (other) humans and they're spoiling my personal enjoyment of the planet.

You cretin. I said nothing about 'my personal enjoyment of the planet' – none of my arguments has any relevance to what you've just said. Idiot. :p

There is a huge difference between

-the world's population is too high and we would all enjoy a better standard of living if it were smaller
    and
-we are facing a disaster of global proportions due to the high population

similarly with number and variety of animals life.

whilst I am pleased that the UK doesn't have any killer predators anymore (bears, lions, wolves etc) I am pleased to see them in africa and other places

Albeit accidentally, we have already prevented a world wide catastrophe by increasing the world's temperature and so delaying the next ice age for many millions of years.
Such an event would have wiped out large numbers of people and huge numbers of animals and destroyed huge areas of forest etc.

Most of our problems are solvable except those created by mad religions, corrupt and bad governance but even there one can hope for better times.

In the mean time, let's maintain strong armed forces and a nuclear weapon.

Jolly good. Believe that if you want to and close your mind to what goes on around you. It's your funeral. Only pray, according to who are humans 'more important than every animal on this planet combined'? To the animals? To the universe? To you personally? I, on the other hand, believe that to say that humans are 'special' (why?) and will be 'custodians and savours [sic] of the earth [sic] itself' is ignorant, thoughtless, arrogant nonsense that flies in the face of the facts.

There's nothing more that I wish to communicate with you about – but please, do carry on partying while immersed in your ignorant worldview. :rotfl::T

in not too long a time I believe my view will be clear to all our species. we are not a curse to this planet and its other critters we are its salvation

I agree with this (though a nuclear weapon only as a deterrent, I hope). I agree that most of our problems would be solvable, but is there really the will to solve them?

OK – could you please explain how this 'salvation' will come about? I would be genuinely interested to hear, and would love to receive reassurance that this will indeed be the case.

the human race has only started leaving the animal kingdom even today a lot of people are just subsistence farmers. In time the majority of the world will develop and become rich we will then have the wealth and technology to pretty much do what we want

This might mean greening the deserts, it might mean fertilising the oceans, it might mean conservation of animals and plants before they naturally go extinct or we may not do any of that as its natural fate.

what we will do is save the earth from the plights of chance.
we will stop ice ages from developing
we will save the earth from asteroid impacts
we will save the earth from a hotter sun as it burns brighter
we will save the earth from its red giant star
we may one day even use the earth itself as a giant interseller generational spaceship and move it to a more favourable host start

Oh, I see. I seem to remember such scenarios in science fiction books.

Have another drink. In fact have one on me. _party_
