We always used to take the Turbo Cat Super Class from Hong Kong Ferry Terminal at Shun Tak Centre a short walk from Sheung Wan MTR.

More expensive than Economy but the cost won't break the bank.
Great views as you are on the upper deck rather than crowded on the lower deck possibly with no window seat on Jetfoils.
It's your money. Except if it's the governments.

I'd suggest that a day in Macau is ample. The old town certainly doesn't hide its Portuguese roots and makes for an interesting hour or two. Other than that it's mostly casinos.

I'd agree with others though, my choice would be to stick to Japan for your length of trip. Doing two centres can work as long as you don't mind merely getting a flavour of each and being exhausted when you return.

Sticking with your proposed cities would be a decent option. Tokyo, Kyoto & Osaka are all great places and with a Japan Rail pass you can get the Shinkansen at no additional cost and be between all three very quickly and allow for side trips.

    No me and my husband.
No you're not a vegetarian if you eat any animal or fish, so do not insult genuine veggies by calling yourself one!

For big cities such as Hong Kong I prefer to have short intense visits of 2-3 days. I think I'd get bored (and run out of money) if I was there for 2 weeks. Better to leave somewhere with unfinished business and plan to return than to get sick of place and end up wanting to see the back of it.

I'm off to Bangkok in a few days for what will be my 8th-ish visit. I always find something new to do and it's also nice to see how your favourite places change over the years.

Yes that what I am like. I don't really like going somewhere longer than a week.

I don't mind cutting my trip in HK but not sure if 4 days is enough there. I wonder whether I can a week there and a week in Japan?

    I've been Money Tipped!
I personally would spend more time in Japan and would travel down to Hiroshima. I did Kyoto, Osaka, Nara and Hiroshima in less than a week but we had no language barriers to overcome so I didn't spend time trying to work out how to get to where we wanted and we were able to eat anywhere rather than locating places with English menus. I recommend all those places but if you decide to spend less time in Japan Kyoto and Hiroshima are my top places. I'm assuming you will be in Tokyo for a few days too.

I've also spent two weeks in Tokyo only and enjoyed every second but there is no need to spend more 3/4 days exploring. If you plan to shop Tokyo is the best place.

One day in Macau is enough. I didn't like it but you should visit particularly if you like gambling.

    What is good about Hiroshima?

Visiting the Atomic Bomb Dome and surrounding park, and sampling Hiroshima style okonomiyaki :). You can also visit Miyajima which is nearby.

Regarding flights, if you fly via Cathay Pacific you can choose to do a multi-trip which allows you to explore HK for a few days, and then fly off to Japan (or vice versa). It doesn't add too much to the overall ticket price as HK is the hub for Cathay. Plan around low season months (or whenever Cathay has a sale) and you should be able to pick up the ticket for around £500-£650.

I'm off to Japan next month (also via HK) for my 6th or 7th visit and I just love the place!
