Thanks for everyone's replies. I wanted to visit Toyko, Osaka and Kyoto in Japan. Singapore I thought we could do as a stop over, but maybe a bad idea. I don't mind doing Hong Kong and Japan together, as I want to visit Australia so I could do Singapore then. Can you do most things in Singapore in two days by the way?
No you're not a vegetarian if you eat any animal or fish, so do not insult genuine veggies by calling yourself one!

Of course I disagree. If the OP wants to do all three... Not sure that I would spend five days in Hong Kong though.
As to expensive, Hong Kong and Singapore don't need to be expensive. Japan, I guess will be the priciest overall.

Wh wouldn't you spend five days in Hong Kong? Do you not need that long to do the main things? I wanted to do a day trip to Macau as well.

No set dates - whatever is the cheapest - been advised to book 11 months before as it is cheaper. I would be flying from Newcastle, so it's been suggested flying to Dubai then to Hong Kong, but it might be more expensive with Emirates.

You can easily do those three in Japan in 7-9 days. It would be a busy 7-9 days though and you will definitely need to invest in a rail pass.

I spent 10 days in HK and I could have spent longer there, I don't think you'll get bored being there for 5 days especially while adjusting to jet-lag.

Singapore on the way to Australia is a much better idea than a stop-over between HK and Japan and two or three days there is enough for the highlights of Singapore City.

From what I've seen Air China and Aeroflot do pretty cheap flights (I look from London though) but I prefer to use bigger airlines.

Personally I spent two weeks there for my first visit, and have been back since and found new things to do.

What would you suggest are the main things to see in Japan for that time? What would you suggest is a must see for Hong Kong as well?

Oh wow that is a long time. I wanted to see at least two places that way and wouldn't have time to spend that long in one place. I can always go back :-)

As illustrated with the post #4 itinerary, you can do all. Starting in SIN, then to Hong Kong and then on to Japan with the likes of Hong Kong Express from Hong Kong. You can connect to WAW from NCL from £126.

For big cities such as Hong Kong I prefer to have short intense visits of 2-3 days. I think I'd get bored (and run out of money) if I was there for 2 weeks. Better to leave somewhere with unfinished business and plan to return than to get sick of place and end up wanting to see the back of it.

I'm off to Bangkok in a few days for what will be my 8th-ish visit. I always find something new to do and it's also nice to see how your favourite places change over the years.

Take the Jetfoil from HK Island to Macau not the Cat from Kawloon.
