Best and cheapest way to visit HK, Singapore and Japan.

I was planning a 2 week holiday. 2 days in Singapore, 5 days in HK and a week in Japan (doing 3 different places).
Any ideas on the cheapest way of doing this? Am I best off waiting for a last minute deal on flights or pre booking way ahead? Also is that enough time to see the main sites?
Thanks in advance.

No you're not a vegetarian if you eat any animal or fish, so do not insult genuine veggies by calling yourself one!

I think you are trying to squeeze too much in. Japan alone could fill the two weeks up. If you do try to go to all 3 destinations then I would get a flight direct to Singapore and then try some of the budget Asian airlines once you are in Asia.
Have a great trip!0 -
More = Less.
Trying to fit in a lot of flights, especially budget Asian airlines, which are prone to delays or cancellation, then you risk being stuck in airports lounges for hours even though you might only be getting a short flight.
We lost almost a full day recently. From booking well in advance, the departure time was subsequently put back twice [received e-mails telling us], and on the day was delayed a further two hours. The flight took an hour. We finally arrived in the middle of the rush hour, which doubled our taxi transfer time. But, It wasn't a problem for us as we had time on our hands, and just had to trim what we wanted to see. If you're on a very tight time-scale you'll be missing out a full wedge of your itinerary.0 -
Without dates, what can you expect?

£372 or less
You can add a separate return to Japan for a couple of hundred.
You can play around with the dates and/or choose another city. e.g Zurich0 -
I like Singapore and have been there many times, but unless you have a specific reason to go, or your flights take you there anyway, I would suggest skipping it for this trip. It's more out of the way than you'd think because it's so far south (almost 4h flight to HK and about 7h to Tokyo).
Without SIN, you can get more out of HK and Japan, both great places to visit. None of these destinations is the cheapest, though there are people on here who can give great advice on how to find inexpensive options if you can provide dates.0 -
Agree with SW17. Give up Singapore and none of those places are cheap. Visit SIN if you ever go to Malaysia.
You can hit the main tourist spots with 5 days HK and 9 days Japan or with a week in each and both more than makeup for not seeing Singapore.
I'm planning on Japan and Taiwan next year and I'm waiting for the new year flight sales.
You should probably expect to pay around £550-£600 for decent airline.0 -
Of course I disagree. If the OP wants to do all three... Not sure that I would spend five days in Hong Kong though.
As to expensive, Hong Kong and Singapore don't need to be expensive. Japan, I guess will be the priciest overall.0 -

Seconded ...............Turning left avoids some of the idiots (only some)0 -
See, you have to be aware of how jet lag might effect you.
Takes me a fortnight to get over, so for you it might lay waste to the first couple of days where ever you decide to spend them.
West to east is much worse than east to west.
Also have to say the HAZE is very bad in Singapore these days.
We've been back 14 days now and have only seen blue skies for an afternoon.
HK used to have bad haze as well.
Don't know how it fares now. It's your money. Except if it's the governments.0 -
Best and cheapest are generally contradictory terms.0

Did 22 days in Japan in June, and the cost broke down to:
Flight from UK £314.11
21 day Railpass £352.00
Hotels £1418.29 / 2 = £709.15
Spending money £500
per person, two sharing.
You don't mention your location in Japan, but it you were including the Hakone area breaking up a journey between Tokyo and Kyoto, be aware the ropeway is suspended. We hadn't realised until we reached the area and that rather limits things, so we just relaxed in an onsen instead.
