Premium rate texts 78123
I'm trying again to post of this site as when I have in the past the replies have not been constructive at all, please if you can't reply with anything constructive then I would be grateful if you didn't reply at all - thank you!
I am a 40 year old straight female but have been receiving texts for 'Glamour tease 78123'…it is a link I am sent and I have just found out I am charged for receiving these texts! £3 a go! I have no idea how I am receiving this crap, I don't sign up for anything dodgy or really subscribe to any horoscopes or anything like that, I can't think where this has come from. Blocking software is not helping and Vodafone have said to send a text to the premium rate number stating STOP but this is chargeable at a minimum £18! is this just not stealing essentially….can anyone offer constructive advise please? thank you very much ! x

You need to start an official complaint with Vodaphone so you can then go to ombudsman service :
http://www.which.co.uk/consumer-rights/action/how-to-complain-to-the-ombudsman-about-a-mobile-phone-provider
This is a very widespread and common scam and the phone companies are doing nothing about it until you make an official complaint in writing.I do Contracts, all day every day.0 -
The STOP message will cost no more than 18p on Vodafone.
You must send the STOP message to end the subscription.
Once that has been done, start the complaints process as well as notifying PhonepayPlus.0 -
Complain to Vodafone and demand a refund. This might take several goes and they might say you have to take it up with the provider, you don't, it's Vodafone that have billed you or reduced your credit. If you're persistant you should get your money back, unless they can show you signed up eg sent a text to the company.
If you don't get anywhere, PM the Vodafone rep on this forum or post on the Vodafone forum and someone should help. And while you're at it, get them to put a premium rate bar on your phone, though bear in mind that as well as stopping incoming premium rate texts I think it also stops outgoing premium rate so you probably won't be able to (eg) vote on X-factor or text donations to charities etc.0 -

What a fab set of responses, **thank you*** everyone!
Ian 011 Vodafone told me to reply STOP but then a warning came up on my phone saying I would be charged I rang Vodafone back who said I would be charged £15 plus and extra £3! shocking isn't it! I don't subscribe to ring tones or anything like that and I have not opened the link within the text message so I don't understand what I have done wrong.
thanks again everyone for these great constructive responses - you are all fabulous!0 -
Dont waste time on Vodafone.
Go direct to the company to unsubscribe you and organise a refund, as grumbler suggests.
No need to be aggressive, and sometimes the number provider and service provider are separate companies.0 -
Don't use blocking apps for these kind of messages; you get charged when they're sent not when you receive them, so you'd still be paying for them but not know why.0

When I had a similar issue on 3 sending stop messages just triggered the next bunch of filth.
A Written complaint and straight to the ombudsman service makes them sit up and listen.I do Contracts, all day every day.0 -

Do not block messages coming from mobile shortcodes. Send the STOP message.Marktheshark wrote: »When I had a similar issue on 3 sending stop messages just triggered the next bunch of filth.
It's not a common issue for messages coming from mobile shortcodes. Do send the STOP message to those, and then complain to PhonepayPlus.0 -
So by way of an update, I rang Vodafone AGAIN and put a premium rate bar on the phone for receiving and sending texts, was already in place for calls, its just not really something I would do anyway.
Will contact the company and and Phonepay plus to or row and will give an update on here just for anyone else having these issues in the future.
By way of an update, Phonepay plus have been pretty rubbish and have just e mailed back to advise to just send a STOP message to the sending costing me £18 for that text.
However Treasure media who I have e mail some pretty harsh e mails to and called have been really good! they have called me a few times and left messages to say that i won't get anymore texts and this morning have said they will refund me in full to my paypal account as they can see i have not used any of their 'services' I asked but still no idea how this came to be on my phone!
Hope that helps someone else.0
