Car purchased now dangerous

Quite true. But if it was Kwikfit that said it was dangerous then it's a fair assumption that the car complies at least with minimum standards for being road legal, and is almost certainly not "dangerous" in the way they stated.

Oh I'm not saying they haven't potentially lied to the customer.
Just that none of us can say something for certain when we're purely going on a third hand account rather than first hand. We definitely can't tell OP whether their car is safe to be on the road or not!
On the flip side, on one of the two occasions I've had to take the car to kwik-fit (in around 14 years of driving), they spent 45 mins doing diagnostics on my car (took it in for engine management light being on - no other local garage had the diagnostic equipment) only to come back and tell me there was nothing wrong, they'd turned off the light and there was no charge.
More likely to get taken advantage of at kwik-fit perhaps, but its not guaranteed. You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means - Inigo Montoya, The Princess Bride0 -

Indeed, plus they ALWAYS pull the "it would illegal for me to let you drive it out of here"... Cobblers, since when did a Kwik-con "mechanic" have any obligations under Law? She's driven it safely for 10 days, it got her to Kwik-con & back and will certainly get her to the dealer to sort the "noise" out (not that I suspect there's much to sort...)0 -

Duty of care ring a bell? Tort law?

BUT THEY TELL BARE-FACED LIES - it is not "illegal" for her to drive it out of there - nor can he stop her. "Pecuniary advantage by deception"... anyone?

Let me re-phrase; "Cobblers, since when did a Kwik-con "mechanic" know about, understand or even give the slightest toss about any Law - except to lie and scam the unwary?
CON MEN AND SHYSTERS....

You haven't inspected her car. You don't know whether the car is safe to drive on the roads or not so please stop saying its definitely safe to drive on the roads purely because you don't like kwik-fit rather than any facts to do with the car itself. You keep using that word. Ok update is :
I took the car back to the dealer today, they use National Tyres (are we allowed to say company names on here?) to do most of their work.
I was informed that a mount has gone and the pads could do with being replaced.
I asked if I could see the pads as I would of liked to seen if it was the same set I was shown at the other place.
The dealer said " no they have not taken the pads off as you only do that when you are going to replace them, You can see the wear left on them without removing them, and they are not dangerous to drive".
So am abit confused, maybe anyone know if this is true? that there was no need for the pads to of been removed Sunday.
Anyway I am going to get the work done on Thursday.
Thank you all for your support.0 -

Your dealer/National Tyres chap is right - Kwik-fit did NOT show you YOUR brake pads!
You don't take them off to check the wear as you can easily see from the side of the caliper (where they live) once the wheel is off. Look here - there are holes in the caliper just for that reason, so you can see the wear without dis-assembly;

We keep telling you - they are con-men and liars!! They keep a badly worn pair out the back to bring in to lie to the unwary, sadly they chose you - but you had the good sense not to believe them. Well done :-)
Hope you get it fixed to your satisfaction. Be persistent, if you aren't happy then say so!0 -
Are you being deliberately dim? Of course it is - they were trying to rip her off!!
What we took issue with in your post is the dumb advice to "have it transported" elsewhere as "They are probably right in that it's not safe to drive"... Why? They were trying to scare her into un-necessary expensive work.
Nothing "dangerous" about it, drive it home (like she did) and get it to the seller to sort out, she's only had it 10 days !!!!!!!
And yet my experience of national tyres would mean I have the same attitude about them that you have about kwik-fit.
Am I going to suggest they are crooks and are covering for the garage? Of course not, because that would be silly. Just as your above posts were. You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means - Inigo Montoya, The Princess Bride0 -
