I have owned a Voltswagen Golf 2.0L (2007 plate Diesal) GTI since 2012. I like the car.

I am aware of the "scandal" surrounding Voltswagon reported in the news and I am wandering what other owners are doing? Are you selling?

If you are a buyer then does the "scandal" put you off Voltswagon?

I have monitored the valuation of my car for a month using WhatCar (http://www.whatcar.com/valuations) and it appears to of only fallen very slightly

I take it you mean Volkswagen - from the German?

Why would you sell the car if you like it?

Thanks for quoting the spelling mistake.

I want a car that will retain its value. That is why I would sell it.
  • personally i don't see values dropping significantly, its a popular car so there will always be buyers, most pople are only interested in the looks and will not have a clue nor care about emission. anyway it will all be forgotten soon

regards comprehensions from VW, i would have thought your chances are somewhere between bob hope and no hope!

No cars retain their value. Just that some retain their value slightly better than others.

You stand to lose more money from selling your car and buying another over and above just sticking to your Golf.

A Voltswagon is an electric VW. :D

I have a Golf, petrol mind you, however I don't know why there is a knee jerk reaction, it shouldn't affect the prices but then you didn't buy the car as an investment.
  • If you check I am sure your car is not affected, only 2009. Cars onwards.

It may not be directly affected but VW second hand values may suffer in general.

Unlikely in my opinion but possible.

Even VW petrol cars may be affected if confidence in VW falls.
  • Ironically the reverse may happen. A VW golf diesel with good mpg and reliability, no issues with emissions fiddling will be a good buy

As with many MK4 Golfs, hold their value as no DPF or other complications and excellent reliability and MPG
