as with all these things it will soon blow over. The hysteria is quite unbelieveable.

It's an eight year old Golf. How much value does it have left to lose? I suppose you 'might' lose the odd £50.

My last Audi ownership experience put me off anything from the VAG stable for life.

My car is a Golf directly affected by this and I'm only very mildly concerned it'll have any impact on its value. And by the time I trade it in for another car, I'll quite possibly get another Golf (if I can still afford it) because its been such a great car. If they don't retain their value the same way as they have up to now because confidence in VW falls, I'll maybe think about getting something else. Its far too early to worry about it right now though.

Diesels are not tested for emissions at the MOT, Its only a smoke test and you didnt really believe the figures they claimed did you?

  • Basic reliability issues put me of Volkswagon (passat estate TDI)
Glow plug relay faults, faulty hand brakes, random stalling, all in I judged the "reliability" myth to be a myth.

I wouldn't buy a current VW diesel or any other diesel at the moment as I dislike the increased complexity from the emissions requirements but it wouldn't put me off a VW car. Other companies may not have been fitting cheating devices but there's clearly been some excessive bending of the rules because there's other cars worse for NOX emissions than VW:

Hysteria they have contributed toward the early deaths of scores of thousands with their filthy diesels. I hope they go bankrupt. They are criminal in what they have done
  • Proof please that people have died from diesel fumes?
