    It would appear that:
    a) Hermes took your parcel
    b) They left a card confirming collection
    c) They now cannot locate your parcel.

As a result of the above Hermes have your goods in their possession. They have a duty of care which, if they are unable or unwilling to return your goods, they have breached. As such they owe you a refund for the costs.

This is exactly the same scenario as if they misdelivered to you - it would be your responsibility to look after the parcel for them, you cannot just keep it.

If they will not resolve the issue to your satisfaction, send a letter before action and go to small claims court. With the proof of the collection card from them I would expect it to be a straightforward win for you.

    Sigh.

They may in your area, they don't here. Just for the doubting Thomas's, do you think they come here after 11pm at night? Two random parcels...... No they scan at the depot. I won't be the only premises this happens with, clearly this happened with the OP.

They get paid when the parcel enters the network, when they scan. I didn't say they NEVER scan, I said they don't have to scan as they collect.

Having a little bit of experience in logistical systems, I would guess those times quoted are when the data gets updated, not necessarily when the courier scans them in. If you take a look at the times, 23:06, I doubt very much that the depot scans your parcels at exactly the same time every night.

All our parcels are scanned by the courier when she collects. The myHermes ones are scanned directly from the barcode we put on it, from the e-mailed label and the Next etc. ones are scanned from the label she puts on it from her pad.

My carrier collects hundred of parcels a day, they aren't scanned on collection. If I left a Very parcel return near the collection, my carrier would have taken it. That would be my fault, as this situation is yours.

Further to my response above, I'm intrigued as to how it is your fault for a courier taking the wrong parcel?

If a courier doesn't scan them on collection but waits until the depot, that is the couriers choice. However it is still their responsibility to ensure they only take the correct parcels booked in with their company. To just pick things up and walk off with them is certainly negligent, and borderline theft.

They were stickers without barcodes, hence the near in possible task of getting it located!

The sticker the Hermes courier leaves for you do not have barcodes, they have tracking numbers. The numbers correspond to the barcode sticker that the courier scans and puts on the parcel.

This is the reason why I suggest that some communication has got confused along the way. If the number you have given Hermes is too long to be one of their numbers, you are either reading the wrong number, or it wasn't Hermes you were talking to. Or it wasn't actually Hermes who collected the parcel.

My point is, there is no collection scan......everyone seems to have missed that. Parcels, certainly my parcels and therefore 'not all parcels' are scanned on collection. What happens to my parcels is irrelevant. I was illustrating that not all parcels are scanned on collection.

I have hundreds each day's it isn't physically possible for the driver to scan them all.....but that is beside the point.

Theft? Have a look at what constitutes theft. The poor courier (assuming the OP is telling the truth) seems to be getting blamed for all sorts. Negligence, theft.....:rotfl:

No, you are confused, that is not your point at all. It merely means that is when the data is updated, not when they are collected. I seriously doubt the courier works until 23:06 every night.

I, like you, also have a large number of parcels go through a wide range of couriers. Every single one of them (UPS, Yodel, DPD and Hermes etc.) scan them on collection, I have never met a courier who doesn't.

You are trying to compare a business with a personal customer. Completely different scenario and different type of courier collection. You appear not to have any knowledge of how a local lifestyle courier works as opposed to the business collection side. Hermes operates two different systems.

What else would you call taking something that's not yours, and not returning it? It appears that at the very least they've not taken appropriate care with what they are doing.

You seem to think that calling someone a courier gives them the right to take and keep whatever they fancy from people!

    A mistake.
